adidas has been pushing quite a number of initiatives over the years. With an aim for a zero carbon footprint and reduced use of plastics and leather, the brand continues to lead the way in its manufacturing processes. Now, adidas is unveiling its Move For the Planet initiative, harnessing the collective activity of sporting communities around the world.

As part of the campaign, adidas is encouraging people from all walks of life to turn their activities into action. The brand has pledged to donate €1 to Common Goal for every 10 minutes of activity logged by the community. These activities will comprise 34 sports via the adidas Running app between 1 June and 12 June 2023. This will be up to €1.5m, which will be used to support projects that educate and engage communities on sustainability through sport.
The Senior Director, Global Purpose Marketing at adidas, Ashley Czarnowski, had this to say about the Move For The Planet initiative:
“Move For The Planet is an opportunity to harness the world’s love of sport to support some of the communities that need it most. The impact of the climate crisis is being felt more severely in some places than others, however, the one thing that unites us all is our love for sport. So, in between 1 June and 12 June, we’re encouraging our global sporting community to join the movement and move for the places we play – it doesn’t matter how we move, just that we move to make a difference.”
The Common Goal foundation will direct the contributions raised through the Move For The Planet initiative to projects in several countries. These countries include Colombia, Greece, South Africa and Pakistan.
Projects from the list include renewing sporting infrastructure using recycled materials in underprivileged communities, as well as providing training on how to reduce plastic waste. Each of the various programs selected for the campaign focus on areas that have been most impacted by effects of climate change.

With its global reach and sustainability projects across the planet, adidas has already announced that it is ahead of its scheduled journey on some key projects. This includes the journey to replace virgin polyester with recycled polyester wherever possible in its products by the end of 2024. This also ties in with the larger goal of carbon neutrality.
There are a number of sustainable products that form part of the Move For the Planet campaign. These include running and hiking shoes, shorts, tees, hoodies and accessories. Included among the active shoes is a special-edition Ultraboost Light in three colourways, along with the standard version across 13 colourways. Additionally, the lineup also includes the Terrex Free Hiker 2.0 hiking shoes, as well as the adidas by Stella McCartney Sportswear Shoe.
Each of the selected shoes features recycled and sustainable materials in its manufacturing process. This includes yarn from Parley Ocean Plastic, recycled polyester, as well as other renewable materials. Additionally, the manufacturing process itself has a minimum of 10% less emissions per pair when compared to conventional processes.
Push sustainability and join the communities across the globe as part of the Move For the Planet initiative.
