adidas Originals has been pushing the boundaries when it comes to their design process, which is notable in their EQT and Deerupt drops. Drawing on inspiration from their archives yet again, the design team introduced an all-new silhouette, the P.O.D. System, built for purpose.

The new silhouette is inspired by a collective memory and enhanced through blending a mix of technologies, translating into an innovative style to become a technical runner as well as an everyday sneaker for the street. The P.O.D. System is built upon a foundation that takes its cue from a unique three-dimensional cushioning design principal based on the 90s running technology, ‘Point of Deflection System’. The system is designed to benefit the runner, providing shock absorption and stability in the outsole at the point of impact, hence the name. The silhouette is created in distinct segments of the sole, which provides targeted cushioning for the wearer, tailored to each area’s specific requirements.
The design philosophy of the silhouette has been reimagined to create a sneaker built for a new purpose of natural motion. The fusing of a high rebound EVA forefoot, BOOST heel and Point of Deflection bridge, the P.O.D. System combines three separate innovations from the past to build a future standard in footwear. The debut of the P.O.D. System celebrates the interplay between the shoe’s unique tooling, contemporary technology and distinct aesthetic – a testimony to a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
The all-new adidas Originals P.O.D. System is available at a retail price of R2,299. The silhouette will be available at adidas Originals stores, various independent retailers and www.adidas.co.za. As part of the drop, adidas Originals has released a short documentary around the design process and the behind the scenes as to what goes in to redesigning a classic for the modern runner.
