If ever you wanted a poster child for one of the most iconic sneakers in history, the Samba would be a very strong contender to win that arm wrestle.
This season, adidas Originals is reaching as far back as it can for the relaunch of the one of the most beloved silhouettes in 3-stripes history.
The Samba silhouette was first released as an indoor football shoe in the 1950s. Upon its return in 2018, adidas Originals have brought two designs to the table, the Samba OG and the Samba Rose.
The OG sees a meticulous redesign, a one-for-one reproduction of the original shoe. True to its roots, the sneaker features a full leather construction across the upper, with a contrasted leather for the 3 stripes and heel tab, with the distinct T-toe panel adorned in premium suede.
The gold foil Samba branding is placed on the lateral side, with a woven branded label on the tongue. The leather upper is available in two classic colourways, black and white.
The distinction between the OG and Rose comes from the iconic translucent gum midsole. The OG features a standard gum midsole, while the Rose features a platform midsole for the women’s-exclusive. In addition to the raised midsole, the Rose’s upper also features a softer leather finish, and the T-toe suede panel swapped out for a decorative zig-zag stitching.
The Samba Rose name is also featured on the midsole, along with the Trefoil branding, thus completing the new take on an historic design, with a forward-thinking aesthetic that places the Samba within a whole new context.
The adidas Originals Samba OG will retail for R1,499, with the adidas Originals Samba Rose retailing for R1,599. Both of the new silhouettes will be available at adidas Originals stores, www.adidas.co.za and various retailers across the country.
