One year ago, adidas sponsored athlete Wilson Kipsang ran the fastest marathon time ever recorded in Japan and returns again a year later in hopes of doing the same, breaking his own course record. Equipped for the marathon, Kipsang will be wearing the new elite adidas adizero Sub2. In celebration of this milestone, the silhouette will be made available internationally for the first time ever, with Kipsang set to hand over the cutting-edge race-day-only shoes to the fastest adidas Runners racers after completing the 2018 marathon.
The shoe has been engineered specifically for elite athletes on race-day, making it the most advanced, fast and lightweight running shoe adidas has ever created. The adizero Sub2 features the new Boost Light technology and has been in the making since 2012, in partnership between adidas and their top performing athletes, including Kipsang himself, who himself has been in training to make history by becoming the first athlete to run a sub 2-hour marathon. adidas is gearing up to set fast free with the launch of the silhouette to the fastest consumers around the globe.
The Sub2 features a full-length Boost Light midsole, which combines industry-leading energy return with the lightest form of the Boost technology foam – made for the fastest of runners. adidas draws on inspiration from the lightness of clouds, reimagining the silver marble pattern. Giving the silhouette superior support, comfort and fit to athletes, adidas have created a single-layer upper of ultralight fabric, engineered from reduced-weight mesh with internal reinforcements and an advanced Microfit. Furthermore, a Continental Microweb (evolved from Stretchweb) increases grip and reduces slipping, allowing athletes to run with maximum efficiency and additional confidence throughout a full marathon on the day.
Initially, the adidas adizero Sub2 was pre-released in September 2017 at the Berlin Marathon Expo to a very select group of marathon athletes. Now, adidas has broadened their release scope of the shoe, which will retail for R2,499, and is set to be released on 15th March 2018. It will be available as adidas.co.za as well as select adidas stores countrywide.
