The adidas Samba Just Got a High-Fashion Makeover with Black Pony Hair Detailing

Adidas has created yet another stylish Grace Wales Bonner-inspired colourway for the Samba featuring “Black Pony Hair”.

There is no doubt that Grace Wales Bonner’s sneaker collabs with adidas have had a significant impact on the Samba. While her designs have undoubtedly helped propel (and keep) the now-popular silhouette into the spotlight, they have also influenced several of the model’s subsequent in-line releases. In fact, you only need to look at the adidas Samba’s upcoming “Black Pony Hair” colourway to make the connection to Bonner’s luxurious and unique aesthetic.

A Closer Look At The Sneaker

The resemblance to Bonner’s own “Core Black” adidas Samba design from 2023 is pretty striking. Both pairs include dark black pony hair throughout the upper, a patch of white leather at the heel, and white leather strips on the sides that create the iconic three stripes. Each of the designs also sports gum rubber outsoles below, albeit in different shades of brown.

However, for all of their commonalities, there are also many distinctions. For instance, the upcoming pair ditches long white tongues, opting instead for a shorter, more mainstream black design. Plus, the new style also leaves out the black leather eyestays and T-toes, as well as Bonner’s distinctive crochet stitch accents.

Still, the subtle tweaks don’t detract from the overall look. They could very well serve as an excellent dupe for anyone who missed out on the original collab and can’t get themselves to pay the hefty resale prices.

Adidas Samba “Black Pony Hair” Release Details

Expect to see this hairy version of the Samba on adidas.com and at select retailers in the spring of 2025. No pricing details have been confirmed yet; however, these kicks will likely cost more than the typical Sambas, given the special material used on the upper.

Other colourways of the popular silhouette to anticipate this year include Caroline Hu’s luxe “Satin Pack”, as well as the brand’s own “LT Stitch” and “Crochet” packs. Make sure to keep checking Sneaker Fortress for updates and more sneaker drops.

Is the adidas Samba “Black Pony Hair” design a good imitation of Grace Wales Bonner’s 2023 collab on the silhouette?
