Earlier in 2022, designer Rich Mnisi partnered with adidas for their first collaboration. The duo has again partnered for the second installation from the adidas X Rich Mnisi Homeland II collection.
Rich Mnisi has carved out a place as a global fashion icon, unearthing Africa’s hidden treasures, while celebrating his heritage. As such, the first collection from Homeland featured a mix of animal prints and traditional Tsonga patterns. These were distinctly synonymous with the Rich Mnisi aesthetic. Now, for Homeland II, the pop-art inspiration includes yet another rich mix of patterns in bold colours.
Moving away from the animal prints, the second collection revolves around the pop-art rose print. This is featured on each piece throughout the collection, making each one easily recognisable. This rose design honours the valour of a suitor scouring a garden in search of the perfect rose. The search is to match the beauty of his beloved. The Rich Mnisi text is also scattered within this pattern to complete the aesthetic.
In his own words, Rich Mnisi had this to say about adidas X Rich Mnisi Homeland II:
“Homeland is a symbol of returning oneself to the ancestral ground she rests on, the continent of our birth and the home of humanity. A place that celebrates the spirit of her children. Her roots are the source of life.”
The Second Collaboration Pieces
The collection features a number of different apparel. This includes the Sweat Top, Orange Leggings, Multicolour Pants, Black Cycling Shorts, Multicolour Leggings, Multicolour Dress, Multicolour T-Shirt and Multicolour Cropped Top. Accessories from the drop include a Multicolour Head Scarf and Multicolour Mini Backpack.
Additionally, there are also three new sneakers in the drop as well. This includes the Women’s Stan Smith Multicolour sneaker, Her Court Multicolour sneaker and the Astir Multicolour sneakers.
As is almost always the case, the Stan Smith sneakers have a very minimalist design approach. The reimagined sneakers include the two colourful roses on the lateral side of the sneaker. Fall in love with the Stan Smith yet again.
The Her Court sneakers bring a soft and lightweight addition to the sneaker pack. It features a black upper base with a white midsole. Unlike the Stan Smith, the Her Court sneaker has quite a bit of detail throughout the upper. The rose pattern is still there but also includes multicoloured leaves throughout the pattern design.
Lastly, the Astir sneaker was designed to manifest confidence. The reimagined colourway is an update to the 2000s classic silhouette with bright colours and an embroidered floral pattern.
Each of the sneakers was produced using a mix of recycled materials. This includes an upper that is crafted from at least 50% recycled materials. Additionally, the range also features recycled ocean plastic, aimed at helping end plastic waste.
In addition to the three sneakers, the collection also features the adilette slides.
