Michael Jordan is one of the most well-known basketball players in the game’s history; having made a name for himself and signing with one of the biggest up-and-coming sneaker brands at the time, the two walking into the Universal Hall of Fame, hand in hand. Jordan’s incredible skill spanned his entire career, starting at UNC and ending with the Chicago Bulls. He is celebrated with the latest Air Jordan 1 Mid colourway, “UNC to Chicago”.
Michael Jordan played for the basketball team at the University of North Carolina (UNC) from 1981 to 1984, where he would win for his team in 1982. He then went on to play for the Chicago Bulls in the NBA, winning six more titles for his team. These stunning sneakers highlight all his wins during this time, highlighting 1988 on the inner collar.
Why is 1988 so important? It’s considered a midpoint in his career. Also, it marks a year when he was more vital than ever, winning titles like the NBA Points title and his first regular season NBA MVP award. These sneakers are a beautiful homage to MJ’s career from start to finish.
The sneakers have a metallic twist throughout, which is gold to match the countless medals and trophies he has brought home throughout the years. The UNC blue makes up the front third of the sneaker, covering the mudguard with a stunning pattern that looks like molten lava with gold instead of lava.

The toe box, the middle third of the sneaker, the tongue and the lace unit are all white to bridge the gap before we get to the Chicago Bulls red in the back that has the same molten-look treatment.
The stacked collar includes peeks of gold and white, the Air Jordan emblem on the collar and the red lining peaking through the top. While the tongue lining is blue on both sneakers, the insole of the right sneaker is red with a blue Jumpman logo, while the right is blue with a red Jumpman logo.
The semi-translucent outsole is a gradual gradient to suit the transition between the other colours on the sneaker. Still, the tongue label is one of the most exciting elements.
The tongue label features a profile silhouette of whom we can only assume is Michael Jordan, with the right shoe sporting his face in gold with a white background and the left shoe featuring his face in white with a gold background. The slightly different insole and tongue labels might be a minor detail. Still, it really adds to the overall look subtly and stylishly.
Of course, we can’t forget about the Nike Swoosh logo that is proudly represented on the lateral and medial sides of both the left and right sneakers, coloured in a fitting championship gold that matches the rest of the metallic elements throughout the sneakers.
These sneakers are stunning and will be released on the 11th of August, 2023, so we only have a couple of days to wait. The unfortunate news is that these stunning sneakers are mainly available in kid-exclusive sizing, so here’s to hoping that Nike notices how much we love these sneakers and makes them available in bigger sizes.
