As we prepare to step into October, there’s more to look forward to from the Swoosh brand and its Jordan line than just Halloween. This month also allows us to honour and celebrate Hispanic heritage. The sneaker giant has a history of dedicating October to launching special editions, acknowledging the rich cultural heritage of the Hispanic community. This year, the star of its Día de Muertos celebrations (at least in my opinion) is the alluring Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT 2 “Familia.

This captivating tribute to the Mexican holiday takes an appreciatively different approach from its vibrant, multi-coloured Nike counterparts, the Air Max 1 and Pegasus 40. The Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT 2 “Familia” adopts a restrained “Black” and “Pale Ivory” colour scheme, allowing the artfully designed details of the shoe to command attention – and they certainly do.

The spotlight-worthy sneaker also includes, in its design, the intricate beauty found in traditional Mexican folk art. As such, you’ll find elements ranging from skulls to marigold flowers crafted into the decal, adding great significance to the design. This thoughtful artistic homage pays respect to the richness and unmistakable symbolism of Dia de los Muertos, reverberating throughout the Hispanic community.
The leather upper of these shoes is enveloped in a creative blend of black and ivory tones which provides a gratifying ‘weathered’ appearance throughout the sneaker’s design. Black suede then graces the tongue and collar, creating a stunning contrast against the leather upper.

The design is further enhanced with complex floral patterns seemingly embroidered on the toe box and quarter panel, along with gold skull embroidery towards the rear on the sneaker’s lateral side. These elegant details pay tribute to the traditional Mexican artistry and symbolism associated with Dia de los Muertos. The floral patterns represent the marigold flowers, which are believed to guide the spirits of loved ones back to the living world, while the gold skull embroidery symbolizes both death and rebirth.
The Nike Swoosh boasts a gradient effect that beautifully transitions from black in the front to white towards the rear. The upper rests atop a gradient-coloured sole, which perfectly matches the colour scheme of its upper. A set of black laces ties the entire look together, integrating with the black accents on the shoe, and the cherry on top is a beautiful custom box that also pays respects to the traditional Day of the Dead celebration.
