Archive Weekly: Latest Sneakers Dropping This Week (23 May 2022)

Last week Fortress featured the first of the weekly release schedules from our Archive rundown. This week we feature a new list on the Archive Weekly for the week of 23 May 2022.

New Balance 550

The first sneaker on the list is the classic New Balance 550. It has a no-frills look about it, a staple for classic sneakers. Designed by Steven Smith in the 80s as the P550 Oxford, it has its roots bedded in basketball. It was reintroduced with modern touches in 2020 with the redesign from Aimé Leon.

The New Balance 550 will be released in three new variants, including the ‘White Au Lait,’ ‘White and Pink’ and ‘Lakers.’ The Lakers variant itself will be available in two different colourways.

First on the list is the NB 550 White Au Lait. This women’s colourway features cream shades to create an earthy tone.

The second colourway in the drop is the White and Pink. It is also seen as a women’s colourway, although not exclusively. As the name suggests it features predominantly white and pink colours. However, added to this are the light tan tones on the toe cap as well as the heel counter.

Lastly, there’s the Lakers pack. The two colours featured here are from the classic Lakers jerseys throughout the 80s era. The first of these is the ‘Home’ silhouette, featuring a mix of yellow and gold tones. In contrast, the second features a more prominent indigo purple hue, representing the away jersey.

Each of the New Balance 550 sneakers will be available from 28 May 2022. It will be available online at ArchiveStore.co.za, as well as in-store.

PUMA X Garfield Suede

The PUMA X Garfield is the first collaboration between the two brands. Garfield is one of the most legendary names in the comic book genre.

Garfield is a fun and vibrant character with a monotone personality. As such, the pack embodies these characteristics. The colourway for the PUMA Suede is a mix of Dark Cheddar, Celandine and Vallarta Blue. It also includes a mix of playful graphics, noted with the included ‘hangtag.’

The PUMA X Garfield Suede sneaker will go on sale at Archive stores from 27 May 2022. It will be available online and in Archive stores across the country.

Nike Dunk High Noble Green

The iconic Nike Dunk High is paired with a vintage colourway in this release. It was originally launched in 1985 as a basketball trainer and saw a resurgence in the 90s, oddly enough, thanks to skateboarders as a result of its grip. The Noble Green is a welcome addition to the rotation.

It features a mix of real and synthetic leather overlays with the Noble Green colour palette. There is extra padding through the sneaker for comfort, as well as a perforated toe box for breathability. It also adds a touch of panache with the University Gold colour for the Nike logo.

The sneaker will be released on 27 May 2022.
