The Nike Huarache sneaker silhouette has been out of the loop for a few years now. As an iconic design from 1991, Tinker Hatfield’s genius birthed the original Nike Air Huarache. Since then, the Swoosh brand has largely stuck to the original construction since its 30-odd years of existence. In a bold move to give the Huaraches a return to form, Nike is set to launch a refined version of the iconic silhouette by the end of 2022. Introducing the Nike 2023 Air Huarache Craft.

The brand-new Nike Air Huarache Craft 2023 is something that is completely refreshing to see. There’s a clearly communicated message in its design, launching a new era for fans to dive into. It basically rebuilds the shoe with a new mesh upper and a cage system over the suede of its midfoot areas. The classic design of its plastic heel cage is also redesigned with a change in materials while providing more support.
It’s still clear that this is a Huarache shoe as a neoprene bootie inner is still present, the general silhouette is largely the same, and there’s no other sneaker in Nike’s catalogue that matches the distinct look of the Huaraches.
On the suede, there’s a buttery smooth feeling that is clearly the work of premium tools used in its design. The refined construction confirms this with a fluid lacing system. This is a sneaker that was clearly revised multiple times to achieve the best possible design, while still being a part of a bigger 30-year legacy. The effort was definitely worth it judging from the images and materials used, but most sneakerheads will be the judge when they get to try on a pair.

If the classic sneakers are anything to go by, the new Nike Air Huarache Craft 2023 should be exceptionally comfortable. Especially with the return of a mesh and some redesigns targeted at increased comfort.
The pastels are a great choice for the relaunch. Modern design is pretty heavy on pastel colours and for a jagged and multilayered sneaker design like the Huaraches, pastel colours manage to soften its presentation on the eyes. Using a clean mint grey for its upper and a light pink works well enough to be simple while still highlighting what is important in the 2023 Huarache Craft.
Officially, it is comprised of a combination of Light Silver, Citron Tint, Pink Oxford, Ocean Bliss and Sanddrift. With a starting price of $130, there’s a strong likelihood that it will be popular upon release. The redesign is definitely a welcome one and it sports the potential to come out with multiple creative collaborations and recolours over time.
