South African geeks are gearing up for Comic Con Africa 2022. After the cancellation of the previous two events, Africa’s largest multi-genre pop-culture and gaming festival is back this year. The event is set to be bigger than before and with the introduction of the newly-announced StreetCon.
With the rise of sneaker and street culture in recent years, the crossover between geek culture, pop culture and urban culture was bound to happen. Three years ago, Fortress also branched out in the sneaker space with the introduction of Sneaker Fortress.

StreetCon promises to be the perfect collaboration of urban culture and pop culture, with the showcase bringing with it the latest in popular streetwear, accessories and street art.
Your Comic Con Africa ticket gets you full access to StreenCon. As such, there’s no need for extra charges.
Comic Con Africa show director, Carla Massmann, had this to say about the new announcement:
“Pop-culture has always been relevant in urban culture, and I’m so excited to see these two worlds collide. StreetCon will be a space where creators and curators will meet up to celebrate urban culture and where streetwear and pop culture enthusiasts can gather to shop new drops, exchange artistic expression, as well as shop for the latest in merch, accessories and art.”

In addition to sneakers and lifestyle pieces from popular brands, the platform opens itself up to upcoming artists (tattoos, graffiti, music and sketch battles), brands and various other talents. The area will also feature a food truck village, tattoo alley and much more.
Comic Con Africa is set to take place between 22 and 25 September 2022 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre. Tickets are available online at the official website.
