Following the recently launched Converse Love Fearlessly and the Converse Unity collections, Converse South Africa is back. This time around, they’ve launched the all-new Converse Peace Collection. The brand selected two artists to collaborate on the campaign to bring the iconic Africa Day sneakers.
The Converse team believe that art has the power to reflect current times, while also promoting conversation. This allows us to build bridges.
With the current pandemic, a global crisis, at no time has it been truer than it is today, with an impact on every one of us around the world.
By engaging the community of artists from around the globe, the Converse Peace collection has launched its peace Campaign initiative.
The idea for the collection was inspired by the recent Africa Day on 25 May 2020, which launched with an underlying theme that voices the “what kept us apart has brought us together” concept.
The campaign kicked off to inspire art and artists of different cultures and backgrounds to connect as a progression towards peace. The collection is an extension of the Unity and Peace campaigns.
The Converse Peace collection features the iconic Converse Chuck Taylor All Star. The Africa Day – Azaniah sneaker features a contrasting finish an all-over white canvas upper with black tones and just a touch of orange.
The two artists chosen to collaborate on the sneaker, Fhatuwani Mukheli from South Africa and Sindiso Nyoni from Zimbabwe, collaborated to visually depict a story of peace and unity.
In addition, the sneaker is meant to instill optimism and hope, while encouraging fans of the brand to document their progress and fueling the initiative along the way.
As an extension of the initial Unity Campaign, The Peace Campaign initiative calls on two artists from the African continent – with contrasting aesthetics, tones, and processes – to engage and co-create a 6th sneaker that forms part of the range. This will speak to the broadened theme of borderless creativity.
The collaborative collection is currently available for sale online at converse.co.za.
