There has been a huge drive towards design and manufacturing sustainable products, across numerous brands and industries. Converse is no different, aiming to develop products that are both innovative and ethically produced. The Converse Renew Canvas collection sets out to do just that.
As with most of Converse’s many initiatives and new technologies, the Chuck Taylor All Star is at the heart of the Renew collection, crafted from recycled fibres that came from used plastic bottles. By pushing the boundaries of the manufacturing process, the Renew Canvas brings with it sustainability, while pushing the same Chucks spirit. The process may be new and forward-thinking, the design of the All Star canvas remains true to its undying spirit. The sneaker builds on a revive seasonal colour palette, matching the concept behind the Renew inception. Each shoe style varies in terms of the design, featuring a recycled upper, recycled polyester laces and the distinctive speckled rubber outsole. The upper features various textures and colours.
Each of the sneakers in the pack also includes the words “Life’s too short to waste”, whether directly on the upper or etched into the midsole. The aesthetic is finished off with stitched eyelets, instead of the standard metal variants, providing further evidence of the push towards a fully sustainable product. The Converse Renew Canvas both looks good and makes you feel good at the same time, in the knowledge that you’ve given waste a second life. The Renew project is Converse’s commitment to future sustainability and innovation, which will be the focus going into 2020 and beyond.
The Converse Renew Canvas collection is available across South Africa at Converse stores in Sandton Mall, Gateway Mall, Menlyn Mall, Canal Walk and Mall of Africa, as well at various retail outlets, including Sportscene and Shelflife. Pricing for the collection ranges from R999.95 – R1,199.95.
