Functionality Meets A New Aesthetic with Converse x Ambush Release

Functionality Meets A New Aesthetic with Converse x Ambush Release

Following the recent Converse drops featuring various collaborations, the team are back with yet another, this time partnering with Yoon Ahn, founder of Ambush. The first collection between the duo follows Yoon’s recent collaboration with Nike and sets his sights on the Converse archive for the Converse X Ambush drop.

Functionality Meets A New Aesthetic with Converse x Ambush Release

Having visited the Converse archive in Charlestown, ‎Massachusetts, Yoon drew inspiration from the various items in the collection. What caught his eye most of all, however, was the Extreme Cold Weather Boot, affectionately known by the moniker “bunny boot.” Ambush and Converse, thus, set out to begin the reconstruction of analogue function for the street style of today. The result would see the pairing of two classic styles, the iconic Converse Chuck 70 and the Pro Leather boot. The look was derived by infusing the Ambush signature look with its often utilitarian styling. Both silhouettes were restyled and reworked with exaggerated proportions, which appear to catapult them into space while still being protected from the elements to ensure its functionality over any terrain and environment. As a result of the partnership, Yoon has become the first designer to completely rework the classic Pro Leather silhouette as it is brought back into the Converse line up.

Emphasis has been placed on the platform midsole. The Chuck 70 features an embellished rubber layering with extra height from the midsole. The shoe has a functional construction derived from the bunny boot, which is complemented by bold Ambush branding on its futuristic heel. The first silhouette features a ‘coconut milk’ rubberised upper features matte detailing, along with a gusseted tongue that provides stability and insulation, with matching laces for a monochromatic finish. The second sneaker resembles the classic leather basketball silhouette, with a black rubberised upper with a tonal 3D Converse Star Chevron logo, gusseted tongue with the monochrome aesthetic again at the fore with matching black lacing. In contrast, the sneaker features a cyber yellow instructional Ambush branding on the elevated heel.

The Converse X Ambush Pro Leather and Chuck 70 sneakers are currently available at Converse Sandton City, as well as Shelflife. The look will be available for R1999.95.
