Cotton Fest kicked off its inaugural event in 2019. The annual event hosted by Riky Rick was started to celebrate urban music, while also involving a mix a fashion and street culture in South Africa. Cotton Fest 2020 is one of the first major events of the year, held at The Station in Newton, Johannesburg, on 1 February 2020.
The event, now bigger and better, showcased some of South Africa’s biggest talent – celebrating the diversities in hip-hop while fusing the gaps within the different local movements. In addition to this, numerous bands also formed part of the experience with various pop-up zones. These included Converse‘s activation zone, which allowed anyone wearing a pair of Converse sneakers to have the opportunity to win a locker filled with merchandise after answering a few questions correctly. The space also included a dance area, where prospective contestants battled it out for the top place to win additional prizes.
Cotton Fest 2020 was a clear success, which paves the way for many more to come. A special thanks to Converse South Africa for hosting us at this year’s event.
