With the emphasis that sneaker culture has on the world, custom pairs and artworks have been on the rise and are more relevant than ever. That being said, custom sneakers have existed for much longer than the latest articles giving credit. Let’s take a trip back through time for a little while, returning to 2012 to look at a perfect pair of DeLorean-inspired Air Force 1 Low Foamposite “Air Flux 1s” sneakers.

This stunning pair of sneakers was created by Expression Airbrush and posted to Facebook and Instagram on the 25th of November, 2012. “All done…Back to the Future DeLorean-inspired AF1s Foamposites dubbed ‘Air Flux 1s’.”
As the caption mentions, the sneakers are heavily inspired by the DeLorean, the iconic time-travelling car from the Back to the Future movies. From the outsole to the heel tab and even the box, everything has been stunningly customized to represent the DeLorean.
The outsole and midsole have been left relatively plain so as not to detract from the rest of the sneakers. The trim around the sneakers where the sole meets the rest of the sneakers is a shiny black highlighted by a blue under-glow, representing the stunning amount of power in the time-travelling car.
The heel area had been modified to display the rear lights of the DeLorean. At the same time, the side mouldings of the car are represented throughout the upper with stunning lights and darks to bring depth to the sneakers and give the illusion of the angles of the DeLorean.
The electric blue light and power that forms the under-glow around the bottom is repeated in the electricity that is arcing throughout the Nike Swoosh logo and again on the Nike Air logo that can be seen on the heel tab. In an extraordinary twist, these elements actually glow in the dark!
The shoe box has been altered to look like the flux capacitor. This quintessential element allows the DeLorean to move through time the way we have witnessed. The same tri-shape is repeated on the lace unit of the sneakers, an element that also glows in the dark. Just below the shape, “AIR FLUX 1” is emblazoned in red against a white backdrop, looking like the emblem you would see on a car.

Despite being posted 11 years ago, this is still one of the best Back to the Future and DeLorean-inspired sneakers. The release of these custom sneakers came at the perfect time because it was around the hype of the official Nike Mag that was released as part of a charity drive and directly inspired by Back to the Future. Similarly, the DeLorean-inspired 6.0 Dunks also came out in 2010.
