Remember the days when the only merchandise you could get from your favourite fast food chain was a toy that came with the kid’s meal or (if you were lucky) a branded cup? The rare sponsorship resulted in a lanyard here and there or a pen. Those days are long gone, as fast-food chains worldwide are joining the fashion sphere. Brands like Pizza Hut and Domino have been vocal about their clothing brands, so what would happen if McDonald’s were to work with a luxury sneaker company like Nike? Here’s our take on it with the Nike Air Jordan 1 x McDonald’s custom sneakers.
McDonald’s has worked with custom sneaker artists to make pairs for competitions like this one, but what about sneakers that could easily fit into your everyday clothing lineup or your Air Jordan collection? These Air Jordan 1 x McDonald’s custom sneakers would do just that.
With a fire colourway that includes shades of red, yellow, brown, black and white, these sneakers will for sure suit your fit, perfect for a night out on the town (because, let’s be honest, that usually ends with a trip to McDonald’s anyway), or a moment to show your love for the McD’s brand.
Starting from the bottom, the sneakers feature a stunning dark red outsole complemented by the white midsole, instantly grounding the colourway between the two sneakers and looking like the brand’s classic packaging. Many Nike collaboration sneakers will feature either the “AIR” branding on the side, yes, quotation marks and all, or simply ‘Air’ like with the Air Force line, but this pair features the fast food’s slogan “I’m lovin’ it” in embossed rubber on the side, inked in black.
The upper of the sneakers is a smattering of textures, including leather and suede in its construction. The base of the sneakers is a smooth white leather that features on the perforated toe box and the quarter of the sneaker. The quarter features the iconic yellow “double arch” M that we all know and love beneath a light brown leather Nike Swoosh, reminiscent of the classic McFries, a Maccy D’s staple.
The rest of the upper comprises red leather, suede, canvas and mesh if you count the tongue and the inner. The red leather makes up all the overlays, including the mudguard, the lower lace stays, the mid lace stays, the upper lace stay that wraps around the ankle and the collar area, and the heel counter.
The collar area is where the fun comes in, as peeking out from under the upper overlay, which has the classic black Nike Air Jordan Wings logo on it, is a lovely section of premium suede in a shade that matches the red of the rest of the sneakers.
Finally, the laces are a lovely golden brown shade that perfectly matches the Nike Swoosh symbol, which is crisscrossed over the red mesh and canvas tongue and topped off with the bright red Nike Air label on the end.
If this pair of custom sneakers doesn’t make you think of McDonald’s fries, with the branding, the bright red and the golden brown of perfectly crisped fries really bringing the idea to life with the laces against the plush red tongue, I don’t know what will.
