Spider-Punk was introduced recently with the airing of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and many fans were over the moon to see one of their favourite iterations of Spider-Man brought to life on the big screen. Is it time the musical Spider-Punk joined the Nike SB Dunk Low sneakers collection representing the Spider-Verse? Luckily, @glitchedgarbage has our back.

The Other Spider-Man

Spider-Punk wasn’t always named that way and originally went by Spider-Man, like many other Spider-Man iterations on the various Earth versions.
Hobart “Hobie” Brown was a homeless teenager on the streets of Camden, London, on Earth-138. While living on the streets, he was bitten by an irradiated spider that had been created from the waste that Oscorp, the corporation of President Osborn, was dumping all over the city.
Hobie took to his new role seamlessly, becoming the protector and vigilante known as Spider-Man, and protecting the people and the streets from the anarchy that was taking over London.
During his time as a superhero, Spider-Punk earned his nickname after using punk rock music to defeat President Norman Osborn and his army of V.E.N.O.M. suits (Variable Engagement Neuro-sensitive Organic Mesh), which are sensitive to sound like most symbiotes.
After fighting the corrupt government, Spider-Punk continued to include his music and art in his activism against fascism, keeping his town and his people safe.
Interestingly enough, when Spider-Punk was first created by Dan Slott and Olivier Coipel, he was intended to be Spider-UK. However, the design was adapted after being disapproved so that they could still keep this “all-punk” character.
As a result, he debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #10.

Nike SB “Spider-Punk” Dunk Low Sneakers

@glitchedgarbage has done it again, bringing us a sick pair of sneakers perfect for the character it is inspired by.
These Nike SB “Spider-Punk” Dunk Low sneakers have various elements that make them perfect for the character, but let’s look at each in detail.
Starting from the bottom, we see a semi-translucent grey base for the outsole and a darker grey midsole to complement it. From there, we get red panelling, which you can see has a dull but intricate design in the red panelling near the heel.
The logo near the heel on the red panelling is an insignia you can usually see on the back of Spider-Punk’s sleeveless jacket, bearing the mark of FNSM, meaning “Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man”.
Instead of having a detail that looks like the eyes of his mask, Spider-Punk’s detail is his mohawk near the toe of the sneakers.
Other than that, there are peaks of black all over the sneaker, on the heel tab, the inner lining, and the tongue, complemented by a pop of blue panelling around the heel and the toe box.
It wouldn’t make sense to leave off the international symbol of Punk Rock, red tartan plaid, so here we have it complete with blue and white designs.
Over the tartan plaid panelling, we see a silver tumbled leather Swoosh logo with a zipper design, representing the zippers that are an intrinsic part of any Punk outfit.

@glitchedgarbage hides hidden secrets, all revealed when the sneaker is in the dark. Whether they glow in the dark or are reflective has yet to be clarified. Still, seeing how the sneakers change in different lighting is always interesting.
The semi-translucent grey outsoles light up, and the tartan design in the red panelling near the heel was barely visible in full light.
The Nike Swoosh, with its imitation zip detail, are also reflective. As well as the laces, the mohawk insignia, and even the invisible stitching around the red panelling surprisingly glow orange.
@glitchedgarbage is seriously killing the game regarding this Spider-Verse collection, and it’s wonderful to see the sneakers being brought to the Spider-Verse that represent more characters than just the usual.
