Le coq Sportif has joined forces with Japanese artist, Kahori Maki, to bring her dreamlike touch to a sneaker line from the women’s winter 2017 collection, the Le coq Sportif X Kahori Maki.
Born in the year of the rooster, Kahori Maki, interestingly, feels especially close to the brand. The Charline, Omega, and LCS R9XX models she worked on for this feminine, high-contrast collection feature black and white graphics in combination with large flowers and butterflies, giving wings to anyone who wears the shoes.
Kahori Maki is a Japanese artist who studied Fine Arts in New York after graduating from Nihon University’s visual communication course. With plants and human energy as her preferred motifs, she takes a single drawing and extends it to form a product or a moving image, turning it into a design of space: «from a single image, spaces, products, and words emerge.» In addition to her own art, Kahori Maki has collaborated with many international artists.
The LCS X Kahori Maki is available this April at select le coq sportif stores, and online at lecoqsportif.co.za.
