Nike has been hard at work bringing some vintage silhouettes back into fashion. So many collections have celebrated a momentous occasion with anniversaries well into their second decade. Their collaboration with Penny is yet another instance of this. After celebrating their 25th anniversary of working with Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway, they have been revitalizing their OG sneakers, including the Nike Air Foamposite One “Dream A World”.

Nike Air Foamposite One “Dream A World”
From the courts of college basketball to the big leagues, Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway was named one of the most versatile basketball players that came into the league in the 90s by Nike themselves. Since then, these sneakers have remained a pillar in Nike’s global iconic shoes, which they have systematically been revitalizing since celebrating their 25th anniversary. The collaboration has brought many designs to life, including player exclusives. However, 2023 is the year that Nike is making their court exclusives part of the commercial domain.
The Nike Air Foamposite One “Dream A World” sneakers have their OG retro hard shell and colour-blocking theme that the original sneakers used. Bringing the retro theme through in full force, the sneakers maintain their 90s vintage graphic with swirling and crisp white brush strokes that wrap around the hard-shell upper, backed by deep jet-black.
Arguably, the best thing about these sneakers is the pitch-black midnight aesthetic that dominates the entire shoe, behind the white brush strokes, the mottled and slightly translucent outsole, the mesh sock lining, and the pigskin accents of the eyelets and the rest of the shoe that wraps around the heel. You could say that the shoe is entirely monochromatic, considering the white accents as just accents. It is genuinely a black-and-white pair of sneakers.
Although we don’t have a peek at it with the official images, we know that the insole is navy and not black and has a philosophical and inspirational quote inscribed on it, Seneca. “Luck/Success Happens When Preparation Meets Opportunity.” Also, a quick shoutout to the unique braided laces, a design choice we rarely see in the sneaker world. As usual, the massive Swoosh that usually demarcates Nike sneakers is absent. However, there is a mini swoosh near the toes to make it clear which brand the sneakers are from.
