One of basketball’s most well-known champions, Michael Jordan, went to UNC in his youth. It is where many of his fans trace the start of his fandom, so it makes sense that Jordan Brand and Nike would commemorate the school. They have many Jordans named after them and have been gifted many Player Edition sneakers, including the ultra-rare Nike Air Jordan 6 “Six Championships”, commemorating the six years that the UNC Tar Heels saw glory. Thanks to @untied.la, we got a rare, detailed look at the sneakers.
The Air Jordan 6 “Six Championships” was released in 2017, the year that the UNC Tar Heels grabbed their sixth championship, hence earning the name of the sneakers. The pair were first seen displayed at Marcus Jordan’s Trophy Room sneaker boutique, and one of only 25 pairs in existence was gifted to the Tar Heels to keep in their growing and immaculate collection.
The sneakers, with their padded and perforated sections, are blanketed by navy blue suede all over the upper, highlighting UNC’s “alternate” or “away” colours. The royal blue also makes up the accents on the semi-transparent heel tab and several parts of the midsole, outsole, and lace unit.
University Blue makes up the “eyeliner” of the midsole. It can be seen again making up the semi-transparent heel tab and the draw-string pull on the top of the lace unit. The colour is also the focal point of the embroidering on the heel and the embroidered Jumpman logo on the tongue.

The embroidered elements wrapping around the heel commemorate the years that the Tar Heels managed to nab the championship title. The years include 1957, 1982, 1993, 2005, 2009, and 2017. 1982 is, of course, the year that Michael Jordan was on the team and helped win the championship, so it’s only fitting that the year is highlighted with a yellow border, contrasting the rest, which is highlighted in white, setting it apart from the rest in a subtle way.
The shades of blue are continued to the outsole, made up of a translucent icy blue rubber, which has a cutout in the heel to reveal the signature Air Jordan 6 window that displays the Air unit in the heel.
The tongue unit is also transparent rubber, revealing the inner lining of the tongue, which is a blue argyle pattern that can usually be seen on the side of the Tar Heels jerseys.

The Air Jordan 6 “Six Championships” is, without a doubt, a loving tribute to the school and team that helped start the immaculate and successful career of Michael Jordan, arguably one of the most successful basketball players in the world. A pair should be owned by the school and team that played an integral part in his legacy.
If you could get your hands on one of the 25 pairs of Nike Air Jordan 6 “Six Championships” sneakers, would you wear or display them?
