Back in 1987, Nike released the iconic Air Trainer 1. This remarkable sneaker is not just another shoe but the first-ever cross-category silhouette from the athletic footwear titan. Naturally, any creation by the legendary Tinker Hatfield is bound to rewrite the rules, and Air Trainer 1 did just that. Its ingenious strap system, multifunctional performance features, and chic design made it a hit with athletes across the spectrum. This trailblazing silhouette swiftly became the Swoosh brand’s versatile “go-anywhere, do anything” shoe. Fast forward to the present, and this classic design may have fallen off some radars. However, it continues to impress with exciting new colourways, like the forthcoming Nike Air Trainer 1 “Super Bowl.

To celebrate Super Bowl LVIII, Nike has cooked up a fitting colourway for its classic Air Trainer 1 silhouette. Over the years, the brand has released other special edition Air Trainer 1’s inspired by the highly anticipated sporting event. Remember the golden Air Trainer 1 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl? Or the iridescent version from 2014? However, this year, the sneaker takes on a Las Vegas Raiders-inspired colour scheme to pay homage to the host city, Las Vegas.
The Nike Air Trainer 1 “Super Bowl” features a black and grey colour scheme similar to that of the Raiders. The predominantly black upper boasts a captivating mix of leather, mesh, and suede materials. This trio of fabrics adds appealing texture and depth to the sneaker’s mostly black hues. We can then find hints of grey throughout the upper, focusing on the shoe’s tongue, heel, and lining. However, the standout features of the shoes are not the sneaker’s materials or colour scheme but rather all the small details that pay tribute to the NFL’s most anticipated event.

The Nike Swooshes are given a distinctive 3D look with their metallic silver finish and chiselled details. This colour scheme echoes the silver metal look of the Vince Lombardi Trophy awarded to the winners of the Super Bowl each year. It also gives the Air Trainer 1 a fierce new look that sets it apart from previous Super Bowl releases. Another nod to the event is the Super Bowl’s official emblem on the insole. But the cherry on the cake is undoubtedly the three Velcro-backed patches included with the sneaker. These patches represent the NFL, the Super Bowl, and the unmistakable Swoosh brand.

The Nike Air Trainer 1 “Super Bowl” does not yet have an official release date. However, it is believed that the sneaker will be made available ahead of Super Bowl LVIII, so expect a release sometime before the epic event on February 11, 2024. The sneaker will retail in men’s sizing for $140 USD via Nike.com and selected sportswear retailers.
