These sneakers haven’t even been released yet, and they are already famous for two reasons. First, Uma Thurman was seen wearing a similar Onitsuka Tiger version of these Bruce Lee-inspired sneakers for her costume in Kill Bill (Mexico 66). The other apparent reason is the colour combination which might make you think of either Bruce Lee’s legendary tracksuit or the Wu-Tang Clan, depending on what kind of movie fan you are. Still, for us, this Nike Cortez has Bruce Lee written all over it.

The Nike Cortez Yellow and Black
Yellow absolutely dominates these sneakers, covering most of the upper in two different shades. A bright yellow hue is reserved for the entirety of the leather upper that extends practically from the heel to the toes and can also be seen on the tongue label of the sneakers. A slightly muted yellow makes up the rest of the upper, made of a suede texture material covering the heel counter, the toe, and the eye stays. The colour also makes up the laces, the mesh of the sock lining, and the massive Nike logo on the heel tab.
The little bit of the left sneaker is painted with black leather, contrasting the muted yellow of the Nike logo on the heel tab and making up the Swoosh.
These are clearly sneakers that have been made for more fashionable purposes, or maybe some lower-impact sports because it doesn’t have the industrial tread that many of Nike’s sporty shoes do; however, it does still have a patterned print that is made up of the white dominating the sole unit, with a touch of black in the mid-section of the sole to tie it in with the black Swoosh and the heel tab. Last but not least, the Nike logo on the tongue label is also white in contrast to bright yellow.
Aesthetically, the Nike Cortez Yellow and Black is reminiscent of the Mexico 66 pair Thurman was wearing in the Kill Bill movie, minus the blood splatter. If you wanted to replicate the costume for this year’s Halloween, it would be easy to emulate the blood splatters with some DIY effort.

Release Date and Price
Unfortunately, we will have to sit tight for a minute on both these fronts because we don’t have a firm release date for these sneakers. Still, it is safe to assume we will see them sometime this year. How ironic would it be if these sneakers came out sometime in the Fall, right before you need them for this year’s Halloween costume?
That being said, there is yet to be an idea of how much these sneakers will cost. However, Cortez sneakers have historically cost between $85-$150 (R1,523.01-R2,687.67 based on the exchange rate when writing this article), so we can probably expect a price within this range or slightly more expensive for the new Nike Cortex Yellow and Black.
