Nike is at it again, making a new Dunk High that tries to stay within the confines of what makes the sneaker line unique while pushing the envelope ever-so-slightly. The Nike Dunk High “Chrome” is pressing up against its boundaries softly by including chrome panelling, which breaks the rules slightly (but not really). This futuristic-looking pair of Nike Dunk High sneakers are unique enough to stand out alongside its brother and sister designs while maintaining the simplicity of the line’s creation.

Nike Dunk High “Chrome”

The new Nike Dunk High “Chrome” uses a mostly greyscale colour spectrum, including black and chrome accents. Most of the smooth leather upper is a super light-grey hue, contrasted by the inky-blackness of the mesh tongue, laces, insole, and sock liner. But, of course, the highlight of this pair is the reflective chrome finish that covers the mid-foot panel, along with a sampling on the heel that has a silvery appearance which changes depending on the angle of the light at the time of looking at it.
Luckily, this isn’t the only chromatic detailing on the shoe. It also includes a dark, polished chrome effect that makes up the “NIKE” branding and the Swoosh on the tongue label. The midsole is also a metallic silver that glitters in the light but does not quite have a chrome effect.
The outsole is usually where the Nike Dunk High plays around a little bit, excluding a slight accent from their two-tone colourway, and this pair is no different. Instead, the underfoot is made up of a striking semi-translucent icy blue that really brings through the futuristic aspect of the whole sneaker, making it look like you are treading on ice or energy beams.
Unfortunately, no release date for the Nike Dunk High “Chrome” has been mentioned. Nevertheless, stay tuned if you want to get your hands on this futuristic-looking pair of sneakers.

The Design

The Nike Dunk High range was first released in 1985 and was created as shoes with a supportive high ankle for basketball players. As most teams have their own colour variations, the goal of the Dunk High range was to create a simple two-toned colourway so that any player could find the perfect match to wear with their uniform. But, of course, the love of this colour-blocked pair of sneakers is not limited only to basketball players but was definitely popularised by it.
The simple colourway and design ensure that no matter what your style needs, a pair of Nike Dunk Highs will suit them. In recent years, Nike has been pushing the envelope with their styles for this line, making it more attractive to the average consumer, who might not need to perfectly match their shoes with their uniform.
Such playful designs can be seen in the Nike Dunk High Premium for women, as the shoe is almost entirely tan with a smattering of white on the midsole. The Nike Dunk High for older kids comes in the colour variation of Light Bone, Diffused Blue, and White, another instance of the company going just outside its comfort zone and pushing the limits of its two-tone design.
