Nike’s Air Max 1 range has been making waves since its original release in 1987 as one of the first sneakers to reveal its Air-cushioning, helped by its visibility in the sole. Now, over three and a half decades later, Nike is adding to their extensive list of colourways and returning to the OG looks with a stunning Air Max 1 “Safety Orange” colourway.

The Nike Air Max 1 range was initially released as a running shoe for the brand, much like other ranges such as Air Trainer 1, Air Revolution and Air Safari, which debuted the Air-cushioned sole to add more lift when running and conserve energy. But enough of the technicalities, let’s look at this new colourway, shall we?

Starting from the bottom, the outsole combines bright Safety Orange, black and white, all making up the different sections and textures of the tread. The thick midsole makes up part of the lower tread and 30% of the whole shoe, all while still having a transparent section to see into the air unit.
The upper base comprises a matching stark white mesh, repeated on the tongue and the soft inner lining, and the laces to round everything out.

A soft white-grey suede makes up the rest of the non-orange parts of the sneakers, including the vamp, the mid panel that leads into the lace stays and the heel, leaving the rest of the sneaker to be brighter than ever.

The last thing to mention about the sneakers is the last piece, made up of the namesake Safety Orange. The design, going back to the original Air Max 1 from 1987’s OG look, is very similar, except that the red elements of the past have been completely replaced with orange.
Safety Orange brightens up the whole mudguard, dominating the front of the shoe and rounding out the back and the middle with the Nike Swoosh and accents throughout the sneakers, including all branding on the heel, the tongue and the insole.
