Do you remember Nike’s “Back to School” sneakers inspired by popular school supplies? Back in 2007, sneakerheads were treated to a line-up of assorted Nike models (such as the Notebook Dunk High, the Crayon Vandal High, and the Elmer’s Glue Air Max 90) with a clear stationary theme. Fast forward a year, and Nike took a different approach by focusing on a single premium sneaker that stood out with its playful Scribble design. Today, sneaker artists, theheyyman Collective, have created elevated custom Air Jordan 1 versions of a few of these blasts from the past. That’s right, the iconic Notebook Dunk High and “Scribble” Dunk High have been beautifully transformed into luxurious Air Jordan 1 custom sneakers, and we can’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia.
As previously mentioned, the “Back to School” pack by @theheymann includes a “Notebook” AJ 1 High Luxe and a “Crayon Scribble” AJ 1 High Luxe. These custom sneakers translate their Dunk High counterparts into a more luxurious design thanks to premium leather and sophisticated detailing. While we absolutely loved the OG versions of the Dunk High, these Air Jordan 1 custom sneakers take the look to a new level of elegance and style.
The “Notebook” AJ 1 High Luxe features the same black and white colour scheme as its predecessor. The composition notebook’s black and white speckled cover makes its way onto the sneaker’s mudguard and heel, while the cover label features on the lateral heel. A lined paper print then covers the mid-panel, while a black and white midsole and outsole harmoniously finish the look. However, where this design stands apart is the beautiful black scaled leather on the toe box, tongue, Swoosh, and collar. Adding to this grandeur, you’ll find the company’s signature branding on a gold tag. The branded label is a shift from the original school doodle found on the Dunk High’s tongue.
Next up, the “Crayon Scribble” AJ 1 High Luxe features a white upper that has been scribbled on with mock crayon. The aesthetic is identical to its Dunk High counterpart; however, the “Crayon Scribble” looks slightly more thought out and carefully spaced on the AJ 1 High. The quintessential Nike Swoosh gets upgraded with yellow-textured leather, complemented by matching laces. The tongue hosts the company branding again, while a white and yellow midsole and outsole tie everything together perfectly.
Isn’t it remarkable how a pair of sneakers can transport us back to a specific time and evoke such fond memories? These custom Air Jordan 1s manage to do just that. From the bold black and white of the “Notebook” AJ 1 High Luxe to the vibrant palette of the “Crayon Scribble” AJ 1 High Luxe, each pair perfectly reflects the nostalgic aesthetic of the original blasts from the past while adding a luxurious twist that any sneakerhead would appreciate—and probably want to wear now as adults.
So far, there is no indication whether the talented creatives of @theheyyman will make this custom Air Jordan 1 “Back to School” pack available to the public. But we are certainly hoping that they do. Keep your eyes peeled for any updates on the release, as these sneakers would be a must-have for any sneakerhead looking to relive their school days (or younger years) in style.
