With the retro and nostalgia vibe all the hype at the moment, PUMA continues to push their 90s-inspired themes, creating a mix of old and new. For their latest release, PUMA has dropped the retro CELL Endura sneaker.
The 90s marked a time in sneaker history where manufacturers were pushing running technology to the fore, with new cushioning and support technologies. PUMA was no different, having created the PUMA CELL technology in 1998, a durable and resilient cushioning technology. The silhouettes stability came from blow-molded polyurethane elastomer (TPU), which was configured in a pattern of hexagonal cells. Fast-forward 20 years and the design team has reimagined the CELL Endura with today’s running technology.
The 20th anniversary edition of the CELL Endura features its distinctive eyelets, a chunky frame, and PUMA’s green CELL technology, staying true to the roots of the original. Most of the updates, apart from the cushioning technology come in the form of new materials and production techniques, as it keeps the design as close to the original as possible, maintaining its running tech detailing. While the OG was hand-stitched, the updated version features digital stitching, as well as a breathable mesh upper with suede overlays. A PU coated leather overlay covers the upper, which sits atop an EVA midsole and rubber outsole.
The PUMA CELL Endura will be available worldwide from 4 October 2018, and will be available in South Africa exclusively at Shelflife. The sneaker is set to drop at a R2,299 recommended price.
