Puma has been creating waves in recent months, partnering and collaborating with artists, designers, and musicians both internationally and locally. In continuing this trend, the brand has announced that is has partnered with Illumination and Universal Brand Development for a multi-season partnership with Gru’s loyal and mischievous Minions from the blockbuster Despicable Me franchise.
Interestingly, the latest creative collaborators will be the Minions themselves, specifically Stuart, Carl and Kevin, and will join the roster of creatives who give inspiration and lend their unique design aesthetic to PUMA’s Sportstyle product range. Having existed since the dawn of time itself, the Minions have a rich history and extensive knowledge in the arts of design, having lived through great eras such as the Renaissance. The Minions have become pop-culture icons since the first movie released in 2010, and continue to inspire artists, designers and global tastemakers.
Heiko Desens, PUMA Creative Director for Sportstyle, comments on the partnership: “We’re very excited to have partnered with the Minions for a collaborative collection. Their mischievous and playful nature fits the PUMA DNA to a T. Apart from their zest for life and endearing character, they inspire us in many ways; they’re extremely hardworking and passionately creative. We welcome the Minions to the PUMA Family.”
The new range from the collaboration will release this Autumn/Winter 2017, in conjunction with the latest film, Despicable Me 3. The Puma x Minions sneakers, apparel and accessories will be available for both adults and kids collections from July at Edgars and selected Puma retailers across South Africa.
