In 2021, PUMA entered the carbon-plated battle for running shoes with the introduction of the Deviate Nitro. A year on from its release, the brand is back with an updated variant of the successful runner, the PUMA Deviate Nitro Elite.
The Deviate Nitro Elite has been designed for maximum responsiveness, as well as propulsion for race day. In doing so, it brings effortless response underfoot for the ultimate gains and personal bests.

It has been engineered for those improved race-day performances. The NITRO mid-sole has been upgraded with this in mind. There are two layers of PUMA‘s supercritical, peba-based midsole – the NITRO Elite – with its fully carbon fibre INNOPLATE tech. These improvements provide maximum responsiveness and propulsion for those competition days.
The NITRO Elite tech also includes the peba-based foam. This has been infused with nitrogen gas through a new, innovative process. It makes it possible to combine the three benefits for runners. This includes responsiveness and cushioning, all while offering a lightweight shoe for an effortless run.
On the inside lies its carbon fibre INNOPLATE. This acts as a lever to propel the foot forward in a natural gait cycle. This increases the efficiency in each stride, elevating the PUMA Deviate Nitroy Elite to the next level. Additionally, there’s also the PUMAGRIP-LT for the maximum grip on the road.

In terms of technical specifications, there are a few key points:
- Stack Height: 28mm forefoot and 36mm heel
- HTD: 8mm
- Weight: 162g (women), 190g (men)
The PUMA Deviate Nitro Elite for men is currently available online at PUMA.com for R4,799.
The women’s variant will be available from 11 May 2022. Both will be available at PUMA stores across the country.
