Inspired by the uncommon GINA Light Visionary car model, Puma has teamed up with the BMW Company, Design Works, to create the futuristic metallic silver BMW X-CAT DISC sneaker.
Puma’s luxury car-inspired sneaker, BMW X-CAT DISC, is unique because of Puma’s Disc system, which replaces traditional laces in favor of a disc on the tongue that can tighten and loosen the shoe. It also uses a single, seamless piece of metallic fabric as its outer shell (resembling the metallic material used on the car). It’s being marketed as a driving shoe and has rolled heels to help drivers navigate around a car’s pedals more efficiently.
In 2008 BMW Group Design unveiled the BMW GINA Light Visionary Model: a concept car with a seamless, flexible, fabric outer shell stretched over a movable substructure, whose functions were only enabled when actually needed. Its interpretation of familiar functional and structural concepts boldly questioned the philosophy of car design.
The BMW X-CAT DISC will launch on July 1st 2016 and will be available in select stores across the world.
