Following last week’s collaboration with Nickelodeon for the PUMA X Rugrats drop, PUMA are back with another partnership. The brand has partnered with French artist, AkaBoku, for a vibrant collection of footwear and apparel for PUMA X AkaBoku.
With the drop, the collection has been inspired by the vibrant style that exists within the DNA of both and AkaBoku’s wild and colourful work anchored in nostalgia.
The PUMA x AkaBoku partnership has been two years in the making. As such, the collection sees art transformed into wearable pieces. The streetstyle collection is infused with bright and bold colours. In addition, this is also evident in the graphics, unexpected materials, as well as AkaBoku’s signature characters.
Characters such as the snake and crocodile are synonymous with the art. AkaBoku had this to say about the PUMA drop:
“I’m inspired by my life and scenes of life and when creating the collection, I liked the scenes that personified my life with wild animals,” says AkaBoku. “I love to use the snake in different situations because its body can be drawn in different shapes like geometric or liquid.”
In addition to the characters that influence the collection, inspiration is also drawn from various other elements. This includes cartoons, comic books and street graffiti. Each of these have also been highlighted in the campaign imagery for the drop itself.
The PUMA x AkaBoku collection features two classic sneakers from the PUMA archives. This includes the RS-Connect (R2,499) and the Future Rider (R1,999). Both sneakers will be available at PUMA Braamfontein and V&A Waterfront, X-Trend, Superbalist, Archive and Shesha. In addition, the Future Rider will also be available at Madaiza.
For the apparel, the collection features four pieces. This includes the Hoodie (R1,699), Tee (R699), LS Tee (R899) and Shorts (R999).
The PPUMA x AkaBoku/strong> collection will be available from 16 June 2021. All footwear and apparel will be available online at PUMA.com.
