There has been a marked increase in recent years for both sustainable and recycled manufacturing across many leading clothing and sneaker brands. We’ve already seen the likes of Nike and adidas launch their campaigns for recycled manufacturing – this time around PUMA has also stepped up to the plate. The German sports brand has partnered with First Mile for the co-creation of the PUMA X First Mile collection made from recycled plastic. In addition to this, the campaign seeks to add a social impact and human connection.
The latest PUMA collection has been crafted to help wearers perform at their best through any workout, while easily transitioning between the gym and the streets without breaking a sweat. The first collection for the PUMA X First Mile collaboration extends the range of LQD trainers, having had multiple successful drops in recent months. The collection also features tie-in apparel alongside the sneakers, both of which were created from recycled yarn, which has been developed using plastic bottles collected by the First Mile network.
In addition to the collection of clothing, PUMA has furthered its initiative by means of partnering with First Mile to increase its people-focused drive, strengthening micro-economies in Taiwan, Honduras and Haiti. The plastic bottles have been collected in these regions, which has created sustainable jobs and reducing pollution in the process. The collected bottles are recycled into yarn used to create the products within the collection. Through this purpose, the brand seeks to truly empower from the first mile forward, living up to its code of being “Forever Better”.
The PUMA X First Mile sportswear collection is set to drop on 2 March 2020, and will be available at PUMA.com, as well as various PUMA stores around the country.
