The Puma Suede50 campaign continues to gain momentum as the company celebrates 50 years since the launch of the Puma Suede in 1968. The sneaker has seen many iterations through various stages in its history, from the Bboys of the ’70s to the breakdancers in the ’80s. But what streetwear brand was more influential in the ’90s on the hip-hop scene than the likes of Fubu? Puma has teamed up with the company to pay tribute to this era with the release of the Puma X Fubu range of sneakers and apparel.
Having been started in a basement by four friends (Daymond John, Keith Perrin, J. Alexander Martin and Carl Brown) the brand is the definitive streetwear addition, literally for the people: For Us By Us. Fubu was one of the first clothing brands to create items for the street, representing entrepreneurship, determination, excellence, and boldness of the four partners who had the courage to go against the grain in 1992 and strike out on their own. Having recently also celebrated their 25 years in existence, the two streetwear legends in Puma and Fubu collide in the 50th anniversary of the Puma Suede for a fresh take on the sneaker and a throwback to swag.
The new collection pays homage to the iconic Fubu tracksuits of the ’90s, along with the forever fresh Suede. The Puma x Fubu Classic Suede sneaker features a black velour upper and red velour lining. The red velour piping outlines the black Puma Formstripe, on top of a thick, black rubber sole, with red outsole for a dash of style and flavour. The gold accents bring a touch of class and additional swag to the range, which fits perfectly with the commemorative Suede 50 logo is featured in the tongue. The sneaker will drop with three sets of laces, which includes black, red and white, making it easier for you to turn things up or down as you choose.
The Puma X Fubu collection is set to drop on 26 January 2018 and will be available at Puma Select stores, Shelflife and X-Trend Stores. The Suede Classic x Fubu sneaker, the Puma Black-High Risk Red, will retail for R1,999.
