Having teased the drop from the collaboration between PUMA and SEGA all the way back in March already, and making it official in May, PUMA has finally announced the launch date for the drop of the PUMA X SEGA pack, which features the reworked PUMA RS-0 silhouette with Sonic and Dr. Eggman colourways.
The PUMA x SEGA pack is based on the popular ’90s game, Sonic the Hedgehog, which both characters appear in leading roles – one as the hero, and the other as the evil genius villain. The drop follows the extended release plan from the rebooted PUMA RS-0 range featuring the computer sneaker’s Running System. The collection features collaborations with renowned partners including SEGA, Polaroid, Roland and Ader Error, across the various categories of gaming, music, photography and more. The range will feature and extensive drop schedule, which will run into the 2019 season.
The RS-0 Sonic takes its cues from the famous blue hedgehog and the areas he protects, which includes the iconic Green Hill Zone. The upper is made from a textured suede to resemble that of Sonic’s trademark blue fur, while the striking outsole stands for his red shoes. The other colours and accents include the classic gold rings featured on the lacing, the lush green, 16-bit grass which can be spotted above the midsole on the rear. Despite its heavy suede appearance and extras throughout, the upper features micro ventilation perforations to help your feet breathe. The upper also features an embroidered PUMA Formstrip, deboss of Sonic’s head and gold rings.
In contrast, the RS-0 Dr. Eggman takes its cues from Sonic’s archnemesis. The red and yellow acccents draws its inspiration from the Eggmobile with its upper and footbed. The upper is created from a pebbled patent leather, which also includes micro ventilation perforations, a debossed PUMA Formstrip and a debossed Dr. Eggman head that shoots fireballs from his Eggmobile. Dr. Eggman’s face and fireballs are deboosed on the medial heel, and also includes the gold rings on the laces. The footbed features black and yellow caution stripes – another indicator from the graphics on Eggman’s Eggmobile. The outsole features translucent blue rubber and Sonic logo under print, the exact colour referenced from Dr. Eggman’s glasses.
The PUMA X SEGA pack with both the RS-0 silhouettes, will be packaged in a special box that is inspired by the iconic Green Hill Zone. The sneaker is set to drop in South Africa on 7 July 2018 and will be available at PUMA Select stores, as well as Shelflife for a cost of R2,999.
