The Reebok Classic Leather Plus is yet another entry into the classic sneakerverse and there’s a lot to like about it. Spotting the original Union Jack logo and the classic leather upper for comfort and aesthetics, this classic has quickly become a favourite in my rotation. Originally released in 1991, this classic is synonymous with the image most of us have when it comes to Reebok.

Return of the Classics

Dear big brand designers, stop tugging at my heartstrings, it’s hurting my budget. The Classics are back in a big way. From fashion to vinyl and even flip phones. We have become obsessed with harking back to our former glories. When it comes to fashion, especially sneakers, I say bring it on. And long may the current trend continue.
The return of Reebok into mainstream culture is a feel-good story that I’m here for. It was a giant that rivalled Nike and adidas for the majority of the 80s and 90s. The brand fell off for close to two decades. However, thanks to nostalgia and this aforementioned obsession with bringing the past into the present, Reebok is back and banging.
Let’s get into it.

Design And Comfort

The Reebok Classic Leather Plus is without a doubt a trendsetting, fashion-first sneaker. The surprising bit, though, is how comfortable the sneaker feels. This is attested to by the countless hours of wear time. While built for aesthetic pleasure, the care that was put into making sure this sneaker feels as good as it looks is absolutely a big upside and a plus.
It has a very simplistic design featuring “chalk” colouring throughout the upper and midsole. This is paired with a gum sole for better traction and longevity and finished off with a lovely hint of green on the inner.
This is one of the positives of recreating classics with modern midsole technology for much-improved comfort. Overall, it’s very comfortable to wear for hours on end. And it’s a beautiful return of this vintage sneaker.
Performance and Quality

Zero frayed stitching and no glue out of place. You would think that this is low-hanging fruit. But, you’d be surprised by the amount of manufacturing recklessness that is rampant in modern sneaker design and production in this age of quantity trumps all.
I have been very pleased with the quality of the manufacturing and also the performance on foot. The obvious and age-old question of creasing that comes with most leather-upper sneakers is unfortunately unavoidable. However, like most things, durability and longevity are dependent on the care of usage. As such, this sneaker has, so far, been holding up very well. It seems to be on track for at least a couple of years of quality use.
