A few months ago, Reebok announced its Zig Kinetica collection, which included the first sneaker, the Concept_Type1 silhouette. This week, the brand announced it would be dropping the all-new Zig Kinetica sneaker. The sneaker was launched in South Africa this past week, where Reebok partnered with Archive stores in Johannesburg and Cape Town as part of Reebok’s “Sport the Unexpected” campaign. The initiative sees the brand collaborating with four game-changing designers, pairing their unique styles with the new sneakers.
The Zig Kinetica is fitted with the latest ZigTech technology, originally launched with the ZigPulse sneaker In 2010. The advanced sneaker fuses innovative sports tech with sleek style while channelling and returning kinetic energy with each stride. The combination of tech and design allows the sneaker to easily transition from the gym to the street. This is where the Reebok has launched its next phase of the “Sport the Unexpected” campaign – with the sneaker celebrating bold styles and risk-takers to reshape culture and being anything but expected.
Reebok sets a new standard of innovation, function and disruptive design with the Zig Kinetica, built around the brand’s well-known zigzag-shaped influences. The range of running technologies includes the Floatride Fuel, Zig Energy Shell and the Zig Energy Bands. The Floatride Fuel provides energised bouncy foam, which helps deliver great cushioning. The Zig Energy Shell provides a bold aesthetic while also storing and delivering kinetic energy back to the wearer. The Zig Energy Bands is a unique outsole, expanding and contracting much like a rubber band in order to provide a spring-like response.
The drop for the Zig Kinetica was not simply another product launch. According to Director of Brand Marketing for Reebok South Africa, PJ Morilly, the partnerships with Archive and the four South African designers highlights the brand’s unwavering commitment to its investment with local talent and providing opportunities to reach a wider target audience through different cultures via different platforms. Reebok South Africa wants to create and release products that local consumers can relate to, while also supporting local businesses.
The Reebok Zig Kinetica is currently available online at reebok.co.za, Reebok stores, Archive, and various other retailers across the country.
