In recent weeks, Reebok has been teasing the “energy return” prototype at various events across the world, including the runways of Paris and New York. Following the success of The SneAKA launch a few weeks back, Reebok has now lifted the veil on the prototype by announcing the drop of the Zig Kinetica collection.
The Zig Kinetica collection features its first sneaker, the Concept_Type1. Built on Reebok’s innovative performance-based zig zag sole, the Concept_Type1 adds new design elements to produce a modern silhouette. The upper was design by Ian Paley, founder of British menswear boutique and label Garbstore. Paley’s relationship with Reebok extends back quite some time, with key collaborations on classics such as the Classic Leather, Inferno, Sole-Trainer and even the original Instapump Fury.
The Zig Kinetica Concept_Type1 features the light and responsive Floatride Fuel system, which provides an energised cushioning feel. The Concept_Type1 is built on the premise that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred. Energy is a cycle of constant vibration with waves oscillating by light, heat and movement at every microsecond. The Zig Energy Shell brings enhanced foam technology to the midsole, with a focus on kinetic energy return in every stride, while keeping a fresh and bold aesthetic. The Concept_Type1 continues to push the technological advancements with the Zig Energy Band outsole, which expands and contracts similar to a rubber band. The technology provides a spring-like response, assisting the wearer, propelling them forward. The band is also adjustable, which allows for a greater and enhanced fit. To round off the sneaker, the upper is made of a microvent mesh upper to provide added breathability.

The Zig Kinetica Concept_Type1 represents Reebok’s interpretation of energy return in sneaker form, pushing the limits of performance to the next level. The sneaker is currently available online at reebok.co.za.
