The list of Spider-Verse sneakers and concepts seems to be growing every day, and the latest character to join the lineup of @glitchedgarbage’s Nike SB Dunk Low sneaker concepts is Spider-Man 2099. As arguably one of the terrifying Spider-Men, the sneakers dedicated to the character is fitting, to say the least.
The fictional character was first created all the way back in 1992 by Peter David and Rick Leonardi for the very fitting comic line Marvel 2099.
This futuristic character is from Nueva York in the year 2099, and his real identity is Miguel O’Hara, an Irish-Mexican geneticist. The brilliant man is a scientist on a mission to re-create the abilities of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko’s original Spider-Man in others.
One of his experiments leads to an accident that changes him and gives him Spider-Man-like abilities, although not just from a spider bite but physically mixing half of his DNA with a spider’s genes.
Voiced by Oscar Isaac, Spider-Man 2099 made his cinematic debut in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse before entirely appearing in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, arguably as a personal antagonist to Miles Morales.
Nike SB “Spider-Man 2099” Dunk Low Sneakers
With a darker personality than most Spider-folk, it would make sense that his pair is a darker blue and colour palette than some other characters.
We have an opaque gum outsole starting from the bottom, different from what we usually see in these designs. From there, the midsole is a deep but simultaneously bright blue that matches most of the panelling on the upper.
As with many of these designs, the Nike Swoosh is tumbled black leather with white decorative stitching, a colour on the laces and the tip of the tongue of the sneakers.
The toe box of the sneakers is decorated with a deep blue background upon which you can see a red design that represents Spider-Man 2099, a design repeated by the white spider dangling from the Nike Swoosh logo.
Of course, as with all the @glitchedgarbage sneakers, you can see the eyes of Spider-Man 2099 close to the toe box.
For fear of sounding like a broken record at this point when talking about the @glitchedgarbage sneakers, their designs always look so much more relaxed in the dark.
On this pair, the red all over the sneakers and some red dls that weren’t noticed before completely wrap around the sneaker above the midsole. At the same time, the eyes of Spider-Man 2099’s eyes are lit up, as well as the inner lining, the heel counter, the red design on the toe box, the decorative stitching around the Swoosh logo, and even the bright design of the spider dangling from it.
These stunning sneakers are perfect for the dark character that Oscar Isaac brought to life, and we can’t wait to see which other characters @glitchedgarbage will bring to the fold with their sneakers.
