Star Wars fans celebrated Star Wars Day last week Thursday. While most spent the day rewatching their favourite trilogy, @chefhuyle released a custom Air Jordan 4 designed as Din Grogu-inspired, everyone’s favourite large-eyed 50-year-old baby.

Grogu-Inspired Air Jordan 4 Design

A few of the images feature a Grogu doll posed near the shoe, smiling with his hand stretched forward as if he’s using the Force.
Both shoes are primarily white, with different coloured panels to match Grogu. Many of the smaller panels on the shoes are black to match his large eyes. This includes the inside of the tongue, the wing-like panels on the side of the shoe, the smaller panel on the side of the front of the shoe, the back panel of the shoe, and the thin panel running all along the bottom of the shoe resting on the sole.
The top of the tongue and the panel that circles around the laces to the back of the shoe is the same brown as Grogu’s coat. This brown continue into the laces and the soles of the shoes. Finally, the majority of the soles of the shoes, the small panels for laces at the top and bottom of the tongues of the shoes and the inside of the shoe are the same light green colour as Grogu’s skin.

Fan Response

The shoes were posted twice, once by the original creator and once by @thehypeleaks. Fans on @chefhuyle’s page were posting their shoe sizes, as they’d been asked to do via the caption:
“GROGU 4(th)🪐✨
DROP✨
YOUR✨
SIZE✨
[custom aj4] Possibly on next drop👀
#maythe4thbewithyou”
Meanwhile, fans on @thehypeleaks’ page, who captioned the selection of images,
“May the 4th be with you🪐
Check out these custom “Baby Yoda” Air Jordan 4’s by @chefhuyle 🎨
Would y’all rock these?💭”, were somewhat unimpressed with their use of “Baby Yoda”, with people like @the.dapper.wolf commenting, “Baby Yoda stopped being Baby Yoda 2 seasons ago…” or “he doesn’t like being called yoda man.” Or “Grogu y’all lame for the baby yoda look up the correct info it’s out there”.
@daenreilly92 seemed more upset about the missed marketing opportunity, “This is what happens when you get uncultured people to do marketing, they completely missed the opportunity to call them Air Grogu’s….”
The rest loved the shoes despite the name debacle, with many claiming they would wear the shoes and others wondering when they’d be able to order them. Some, like @jeeves_google, felt the design was too great to wear, “if I had them I probably wouldn’t wear them now… I’d put them on a shelf.”
While there was a lot of love for the shoes, they weren’t everyone’s cup of tea, and a small minority of Star Wars fans made it clear that they didn’t like them.
After two weeks of no Mandalorian, fans were happy to see Grogu’s face again, even if it was just to advertise a pair of custom shoes.
