Mortal Kombat 1‘s release is creeping ever closer. While fans are getting ready to play the game that resets the clock, it’s about time we got an addition to our wardrobes that celebrates one of the most [un]dynamic duos in the game, Sub-Zero and Scorpion. The rivals have faced off in nearly every iteration of the game, so we would see them pitted against each other, but which side are you on?

This Mortal Kombat 1 custom concept was created by one of the fantastic designers here at Fortress of Solitude. The concept lets you step into the role of your favourite character of the duo with either the left or right sneaker. Both have the black and yellow Mortal Kombat logo on the toe box, matching the black and yellow Nike Dunk tongue label.
Starting with the left side, let’s look at the sneaker dedicated to Sub-Zero. The character is often seen wearing black and red and is one of the many defenders of the Earthrealm. His black and white theme can be seen represented all throughout the sneakers.

Beginning with the perfect black outsole, the midsole that contrasts it is a patterned blue that fades to white in certain areas, mimicking Sub-Zero’s icy abilities and creating a beautiful contrast against the rest of the dark sneakers. Next up, the overlay panelling around the front is a dark blue that fades to black thanks to the shadows and contrasts of the image.

The lace stays are black on this pair, complemented, but the lowest and upper-most lace stays are part of the blue overlay panelling, matching with blue laces. The base of the upper, below the patterned blue Nike Swoosh logo, has a side profile of Sub-Zero’s masked face. The Nike Swoosh logo is the same as the midsole, designed to represent the Sub-Zero’s abilities.
The right side then represents Scorpion in a similar colour-blocking pattern but using Scorpion’s usual yellow instead of Sub-Zero’s blue. Similarly, the outsole is a perfect pitch black, contrasted with the bright midsole that display’s Scorpion’s ability to sometimes manipulate fire.

From there, the same pattern of colours and panelling is used. Scorpion’s side profile is the focal point of the mid-foot area below the Nike Swoosh logo, which is bright to match the patterned outsole and represent your chosen player’s abilities.

Whether they are rivals or allies has been a hot debate, but we know that they look just as epic fighting each other as they walk side by side with these sneakers. The duality of fire and ice has always made a perfect combination, making Scorpion and Sub-Zero the perfect combination or the perfect antithesis.
Would Sub-Zero and Scorpion make the perfect allies, or should the two continue to duke it out to see who is the strongest once and for all? The Good thing is you don’t need to decide to like this pair of Nike Dunk Mortal Kombat 1 sneakers.
