Sneakerheads have been waiting for a Nike collaboration with Takashi Murakami for a long time. For years, many customizers have created their own sneakers inspired by the Japanese artist’s colourful motifs. Still, there has never been any kind of official pair. That, my friends, is about to change. Takashi Murakami and Nike have worked together to bring us not one but two sneakers that are made in his style. Of course, they are digital copies, but sneakerheads who get their hands on the NFT can forge them into a physical pair.

Takashi Murakami RTFKT x Air Force 1s

Answering the call of what Nike fans have been waiting for, the Takashi Murakami Air Force 1s are about to go live as part of a unique Air Force 1 collaboration with RTFKT. Murakami has two different styles being released, the “Murakami Drip” and the “Murakami DNA”.
Functionally, the two styles of sneakers are almost identical except for the colour variations on some of the accents and the pattern that is proudly displayed on the upper. In addition, both sneakers feature a standard Air Force 1 sole unit, an RTFKT bolt, the signature Nike Swoosh Logo (although their colours vary), and a Clone x lace dubrae.
The main difference between the two pairs is the design used for each and the Nike Swoosh’s colour. The “Murakami Drip” features colourful daisies with joyful smiles and a black Nike Swoosh. In contrast, the “Murakami DNA” features splashes of colour like paint drips and eyes that look in all directions, with a blue Nike Swoosh.

Digital Collectibles

The world of digital collectables has been growing strong since it first started and doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. Since Nike created their own platform to collect digital designer apparel, they have been enjoying the wave of interest in NFTs, and it will keep it that way.
What’s so interesting about these RTFKT x Air Force 1s is that they will go live as highly-limited digital collectables. Nike estimates that there are about 4,349 copies of both styles of sneakers in total. Once those are sold out, that’s it. The price for these digital collectables (at the time of writing this article) is 0.51 ETH (roughly $963.50 or R17,646.37) for the “Murakami Drip” and 4.99 ETH (approximately $9,427.16 or R172,657.12) for the “Murakami DNA”.
The really cool part about this collaboration is that if you manage to get your hands on a copy of the digital pair of sneakers, you will be able to forge the virtual collectable for a physical copy of the Murakami Air Force 1s, so they don’t have to stay locked in the metaverse forever. The forging period for these sneakers is between April 24th and May 8th, so not only are the sneakers limited, there is a limited time to get them forged. So if you are set on owning these, prepare for the time crunch.
TL;DR
- Nike is finally collaborating with Takashi Murakami to bring two RTFKT x Air Force 1 styles.
- The sneakers will be available as digital collectables but can be forged into a physical pair.
- These are highly-limited sneakers, with only about four thousand styles together. If you want these, get ready for some competition.
