One of the most iconic sneaker silhouettes to come out of the 80s is undoubtedly the Air Jordan 1. I mean, if MJ’s flagship sneaker was never released back in 1985, would sneaker culture even be what it is today? This beauty of a shoe pretty much kick-started the sneaker craze and revolutionized the industry. With its timeless design, premium materials, and connection to one of the greatest basketball players of all time, it isn’t hard to see why. Now, almost four decades later, this iconic silhouette remains as relevant as it was when it first hit the market. Its popularity has only grown over the years, with new colourways and collaborations constantly being released. Just this year, sneakerheads have been blessed with some stunning new iterations such as the ‘Lucky Green’ and the ‘UNC Toe”, and let’s not forget the unique collab with Bephie’s Beauty Supply x Union LA set to release this August. However, one of the most highly anticipated colourway releases for this silhouette in 2023 is arguably the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Palomino”.

Since being teased in late December of 2022, the AJ1 Retro High OG “Palomino” has generated a lot of buzz and excitement among sneakerheads. Now finally, we get to see the colourway as Nike intends to release it thanks to official photography from the Swoosh Brand itself.
The AJ1 “Palomino” adds a fresh twist to this classic silhouette by dropping its usual all-leather construction in favour of a combination of smooth black leather and dark brown suede on the upper. The shoe’s upper then finds itself covered predominantly in black while accented with dark brown suede hits on the toe box, Swoosh logo, ankle collar, and heel. The combination of leather and suede materials adds great depth and texture to the shoe, making it stand out from the traditional all-leather AJ1s. The same brown shade of the suede reappears on the sneaker’s outsole on top of a cream midsole. This creates a cohesive and stylish colour palette that complements the shoe’s overall design.

A subtle yellow pop is added via the “Nike Air” tongue tag, which can be found on the top of the shoe. Overall, using different materials and colour accents in this AJ1 Low shoe creates a visually appealing and unique look. It offers a fresh take on the classic silhouette, making it a standout choice for sneaker enthusiasts looking for something different. We can definitely see why sneakerheads can’t wait for this beauty to drop.

The Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Palomino” release is expected to take place on September 2 via Nike SNKRS and select retailers for $180. The sneaker will come laced up with its default black cotton laces, but you can expect to find an additional pair of laces in a complementary colour included in the box.
