Which Nike Air Force 1 is the best? Let’s find out. And while we have your attention, we’ve created a short video to whet your appetite in honour of this legendary sneaker. Check it out after you’re done with out list.
A Bit of AF1 History
For most, the Air Force 1 seems to be the gateway into the sneaker community—at least, it was for me. It’s affordable, clean, robust, and stylish—everything you’re basically looking for from a sneaker. In all honesty, I wore my first pair of AF1s with just about everything, including formal attire. They’re just very flexible.
Unfortunately, wearing them this much means that they tend to crease and change colour at some point — especially if you have a white pair. But before we go further into all that, let’s look back at how these sneakers even came about…
The Nike Air Force 1 (named after the aeroplane used by the American President) is a timeless classic sneaker that has been a staple in the sneaker culture since it first debuted way back in 1982. Designer Bruce Kilgore was responsible for crafting the Air Force 1, the first basketball shoe to feature Nike Air technology.
Over the years, it has become one of the most iconic sneakers of all time and is still in demand today. Now, 40 years later, Nike continues to release several variations of the Air Force 1 (the first Nike Sneaker to be classified as a Retro), including different colourways, materials, looks (the super low, low, mid, high, super high shapes, and, most recently, the low-top shape) and collaborations. Four decades later, it remains one of the most sought-after sneakers around. I still have about ten pairs in the closet.
1. Nike Air Force 1 Low ‘07
One of the most popular Air Force 1 shoes, the Nike Air Force 1 Low ’07 is a must-have for any sneakerhead, especially when it comes in all-white – the epitome of sneaker fashion. Over the years, the sneaker has been available in a number of different colourways. However, the white-on-white version, with its clean and versatile look, remains the most popular. You can’t go out onto the streets without spotting a pair of white Nike Air Force 1s on someone. And that’s saying something.
The design: It features a low-top design with a leather upper and incredibly comfortable Nike Air cushioning.
What we like about it: These sneakers, among the best AF1 kicks you can find, are trendy while still being a timeless classic that has minimal changes to the original design, such as materials and increased sole height. As one of the most popular silhouettes under Nike’s belt, there is an almost infinite amount of colourways to choose from, making them a versatile choice for any wearer.
Release date: 1982
Where to buy it: You can find the classic all-white AF 1 ’07 at retail stores or Nike.com in both men’s and women’s sizes for $115 USD. Alternatively, you can check StockX for a bargain price.
2. Nike Air Force 1 ‘07 LV8
The Nike Air Force 1 ‘07 LV8 is one of the best Air Force shoes – a modern take on the classic sneaker. Again, the ‘07 LV8 sneaker is available in several colourways (Nike even allows you to customise them on their website), but the black-and-white 40th Anniversary version continues to be a fan favourite. Don’t be surprised if you see these making a comeback in 2024 – especially since Jordans have become so expensive.
The design: As hinted by its moniker, LV8 or “elevate”, this model features a subtly raised sole unit that noticeably distinguishes it from its predecessors.
What we like about it: Not only is the Nike Air Force 1 ’07 LV8 available in a multitude of colourways, but it also offers plenty of material finishes, allowing sneakerheads to really tailor their collection to their preferences. Having plenty of options is any consumer’s dream, and these sneakers have no shortage of options.
Release date: 2015
Where to buy it: You can buy the black-and-white 40th Anniversary colourway from StockX for a minimum of $101 USD, or check out Nike.com for other stylish colourways.
3. Nike AF1 ‘07 Premium
Celebrating 40 years of pushing sport and fashion boundaries, the Nike Air Force 1 ‘07 Premium is a luxurious version of the classic sneaker. The ‘07 Premium is available in several colourways, but the black and gold version is a standout. Just look at it. It’s stunning. I want a pair of these!
The design: The sneaker features a leather upper with front lace-up fastening, a round toe, a flat rubber sole and a metallic gold Swoosh for a bold look.
What we like about it: Air Force 1s are sneakers that you can dress up or down for any occasion, and the luxurious Premium range makes it even more possible to wear to formal events.
Release date: 1982
Where to buy it: Luckily, the Nike Air Force 1 ’07 Premium hasn’t evaded your grasp yet. It’s up for grabs over on eBay starting at $60 USD and upwards.

4. Nike AF1 React
From hoops staple to urban street legend, the Nike AF1 React is another modern update to the classic AF1 sneaker. The AF1 React is available in several colourways, but the white and blue version is the best. This is another pair I need to add to my collection.
The design: The AF1 React features a combination of leather and synthetic materials for a durable and breathable upper. The shoe also has Nike React technology (described as a lightweight, durable foam that delivers a smooth, responsive ride).
What we like about it: There are enough changes to the sneakers to really distinguish them from any other pair of Air Force 1 kicks, but also few enough that everyone can still recognise what you are wearing. Also, the way that the design is split between the more ‘traditional’ AF1 look and the new React look is just genius.
Release date: 1982
Where to buy it: If you’re hunting for the Nike AF1 React in this distinct colourway, your first stop should be Nike.com, where it’s currently purchasable for $111.97 USD. Alternatively, try your luck on StockX – you might snag a better deal for your size there.
5. Nike AF1 Low Travis Scott
The Nike Air Force 1 Low Travis Scott (dropped at ComplexCon 2017 in celebration of the silhouette’s 35th anniversary) is a highly sought-after collaboration between the popular sneaker company and rapper Travis Scott. As with most AF1s, the Travis Scott Air Force 1 is available in several colourways, but the ‘Sail’ version is probably the most coveted. Beautiful, isn’t it?
The design: The sneaker features a unique design with canvas and suede materials, detachable Velcro Swooshes (some of which are standout metallic or gold), and a Cactus Jack logo on the heel. The sneaker also has Nike Air cushioning for all-day comfort.
What we like about it: Who doesn’t love a good Travis Scott moment? The best part about these sneakers was that the Nike Swoosh is Velcro, meaning that you can customize this look to be exactly how you want it. While the sneakers came with plenty of their own options to attach to the sides, any DIY kings and queens can easily make these sneakers look however they want with a few patches and some Velcro of their own.
Release date: 2017
Where to buy it: To secure your perfect fit, consider perusing available sizes on Goat or StockX. Be mindful, though, that the costs can swing quite dramatically—anywhere from $700 USD up to a whopping $3007 USD.
6. The AF1 Gore-Tex
Yes, they make them for just about all weather conditions. The Nike Air Force 1 Gore-Tex is a weatherproof and rugged silhouette of the classic AF1 sneaker. It can trudge through just about anything (rain, sleet, and snow). You can walk these into the mud and just wipe them off afterwards.
The design: The sneaker features a Gore-Tex upper that is waterproof and breathable, making it perfect for rainy days. It features signature Air and GORE-TEX branding on the heel and midsole.
What we like about it: There are plenty of Air Force 1 boot options out there, but the Gore-Tex Air Force 1 is special in its own way. The tread on these puppies is tailor-made for strenuous activities, the chunky outsole is an absolute statement on its own, and these sneakers are still breathable but are perfect for those living in harsher environments who still want to look great when they hit the slippery or snow-covered streets.
Release date: 1982
Where to buy it: Visit sites such as eBay or StockX to purchase a pair of these unique, waterproof sneaker boots, which start at just $184 USD.

7. The AF1 ‘07 LV8
The Nike Air Force 1 High ‘07 LV8 is a high-top version of the classic sneaker and is considered a streetwear essential. Don’t be surprised to see popular musicians and artists copping these kicks. They’ve been worn by Kanye West, Rakim, Nas, DJ Premier, Travis Scott, Dr Dre, Big Boi, Jay-Z, Nelly and Ja Rule, to name a but few.
The design: This version of the tried-and-tested sneaker features a premium leather upper with a Velcro strap for a secure fit. Like every other AF1, it has the Nike Air cushioning tech.
What we like about it: Not only do these sneakers have great points in the sneaker and streetwear history books, but their elevated heel makes them the perfect choice for short kings and queens who want a little extra lift while still appreciating the comfort and versatility of sneakers.
Release date: 2015
Where to buy it: If you’re looking for these snazzy “Added Air” kicks, your best shot at snagging a pair is on eBay. Do note that the prices fluctuate depending on the size and condition of the sneakers. However, I have seen pairs in good condition for a reasonable $305 USD.
8. The Air Force 1 Wild
Nike first made their Air Force 1 range as a performance sports sneaker, but the range was quickly adopted for fashion, athleisure, and streetwear thanks to their gorgeous look and durability.
The design: The Nike Air Force 1 Wild model, with its adapted and grippy tread, as well as a more rugged look, was made for those who love to adventure outdoors. These sneakers were given a lot of boot-like elements, like a slightly extended tongue with a tongue tab and extra cushioning in the heel for added comfort, all while staying light, flexible, and breathable, making them a great versatile option for hikers.
What we like about it: Swapping out the usual leather for canvas and suede can be tricky sometimes, but these sneakers pull off the look flawlessly. The slight texture on the side walls of the midsole also adds a subtle touch to the sneakers that is otherwise missing on other variations of the Air Force 1 range.
Release date: 2023
Where to buy it: These outdoorsy but gorgeous sneakers are available on Nike.com for $145 in women’s sizes, but many pairs can be found on sites that sell pre-owned pairs like StockX for as little as $72.
9. The Air Force 1 Shadow
These Nike AF1 sneakers are for sneakerheads who want to wear a tried-and-true silhouette that sets itself just a little bit apart from the normal Air Force 1 look. If you want a subtle way to stand out from the rest of the crowd, the doubled-up look of the Air Force 1 Shadow might be the way to do it.
The design: With double the overlays and double the flair, they give the illusion that each area of the sneakers is casting a unique and almost comic book-like shadow.
What we like about it: Nike knows how to keep things subtle while adding a level of flair that you can’t find anywhere else. These sneakers are versatile and wearable while having a bit of pop-culture edge that doesn’t take away from the original design of the sneakers. They are just gorgeous, and they do not take too much away from the rest of the outfit you might wear them with.
Release date: 2023
Where to buy it: There are plenty of new colourways available on Nike.com for $135 ($99.97 with the current sale), but if you are looking for quality pre-owned sneakers, you can also find them on sites like GOAT for slightly less.

10. The Air Force 1 ’07 Next Nature
If you want to find quality Nike sneakers that are sustainably made and leave less of an environmental footprint, the Air Force 1 ’07 Next Nature sneakers are a great option.
The design: The sneakers still maintain the gorgeous patented look of the Air Force 1 ’07 sneakers, but you can rest assured that at least 20% of the materials used to make the sneakers are recycled, and, as Nike says, you can “do good by looking good. You also don’t need to worry about sacrificing comfort and quality for sustainability, as the sneakers have all the technology that we know and love from the Air Force 1 line.
What we like about it: In a world that is kept in a chokehold by consumerism and its impact on the environment, it’s always good to know that there are ways to make a difference when it comes to your footprint on the environment – knowing that that footprint can still be Air Force 1 shaped is the cherry on the cake.
Release date: 2022
Where to buy it: Sustainability doesn’t have to break the bank, as Nike has these sneakers on offer for $115 ($80.97 with the current sale), but good quality pre-owned options can be found on sites like StockX for as little as $74.
