I know what you are thinking when you see the red Dior x Air Jordan 1 sneaker. “Wasn’t that a bluff?” If you don’t know what I’m referring to, in 2021, there were rumours about a pair of “Chicago” red Dior x Air Jordan 1 sneaker that proved false, but that didn’t stop sneakerheads in the custom community from bringing the design to life.

In 2020, Dior and Air Jordan collaborated to bring to the stage a stunning pair of luxury Air Dior sneakers that rocked the world, especially since it was notoriously difficult to get your hands on the limited luxury release.

The original pair was a stunning white and grey number, made in Italy with fine calf leather that screamed “Maison Dior”, with echoes of Dior grey all over the sneakers, from top to bottom. The iconic Jumpman Wings logo was altered to read “AIR DIOR”, as well as the Nike Swoosh, which was flooded with Dior’s Oblique Jacquard motif, which was scaled down and scrawled all across the shoe’s inner as well.

In 2021, the internet was taken by storm with rumours that Air Dior would soon have another pair of sneakers on the market. Then those rumours transformed into a drop of at least three brand-new luxury colourways from the collaboration.

Much to the disappointment of sneakerheads worldwide looking forward to the luxury collaboration, the rumours proved false, and we never got to see any of the famed colourways that Dior was allegedly working on.

However, the original mockups can be removed from our imagination forever, thanks to sneaker customs, as one sneakerhead has brought the red Dior x Air Jordan 1 sneaker to life.

@brucehatoo, a shoe photographer on Instagram, shared a post in June of a stunning pair of blood-red Chicago Dior x Air Jordan 1 sneakers, effectively bringing all sneakerhead’s dreams of this pair of sneakers to life.

These custom sneakers are a close replica of the “Chicago” pair that was racing around the internet, except that the red is a stunning, saturated crimson, making them look a touch lighter than the mockup pictures released of the “upcoming” pair.

Many of the features from the original sneakers remain the same, including the luxurious Nike Swoosh logo, the Air Dior Jumpman Wings logo, the white base of the upper, and the “Dior Grey” midsole. At the same time, other elements have been changed to dark red to match the design.

Crimson covers the outsole, the upper panelling, the inner lining, the laces, and even the tongue label, which reads “DIOR AIR”, imposed over a Nike Swoosh logo.

The outsole is semi-transparent, allowing you to read the thick black typography on the sole, which states “DIOR”, and the pair is even photographed above the original AIR DIOR box.

Although these sneakers are a custom build and aren’t available in the retail sphere, it’s wonderful to see the design brought to life in a way that sneakerheads can appreciate, even if they still can’t get their hands on a pair.
