Bruce Kilgore’s legendary shoe design, the Jordan Air Ship, emerged in 1984, combining the technology of the Air Force range with the look and stunning aesthetic of Air Jordan. Almost 40 years later, the Jordan Air Ship “Realtree Camo” is here to help us keep warm during the colder months going into next year.
The average sneakerhead probably wouldn’t lump Realtree, one of the world’s most significant hunting apparel and gear brands, into the same category as a pair of Jordan Air Ships. Still, Nike has made it happen, bridging the gap between luxury sneakers and incredibly utilitarian hunting gear effortlessly.
The colourway of the Jordan Air Ship “Realtree Camo” combines earthy tones like Oil Green, Military Brown and Sail for a neutral and winter-perfect look. Let’s look at how all these elements are spread out over the sneaker. Starting from the bottom, we see that a Military Brown rubber outsole has been paired with a Sail midsole for an anchored look, providing the only really light element of the sneakers.
Moving up from the sole unit onto the sneakers, you can see where they garnered their name. Realtree’s signature camo looks gorgeous, blanketing the entire upper, showing how good their camo pattern is in durable canvas. It’s no wonder the camo is as well-loved as it is; it practically hides all the details and depth created by the sneaker’s panelling unless you are looking incredibly closely.
Any leather that might usually be present on elements of the sneakers, such as the collar or the Nike Swoosh logo, has been replaced on this pair by Military Brown suede, cutting through the rugged look of the camo canvas perfectly, along with the Military Brown laces and the mesh inner lining.
You might be looking at the colourway and wondering where the Oil Green is supposed to come in. It appears front and centre, making up the branding of the tongue labels that read NIKE AIR. You might be fooled into thinking the brand would do this elsewhere on the sneakers. Instead, the Oil Green is relegated only to the front, while the embroidered NIKE AIR on the heel is in a Military Brown thread that matches the suede overlays.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a pair of Jordan Air Ship sneakers without the signature brass button on the back that reads “Sweat” and “Blood”, reminding wearers of all the hard work Michael Jordan has put into making a successful career.
Sorry, ladies, this one is just for the gents. Still, if you are looking for your own pair of Jordan Air Ship sneakers to enjoy this holiday season, Nike has you covered with the Jordan Air Ship “Denim”. Otherwise, gents, you can find these sneakers dropping on the 13th of December, exclusively in your sizes. You can find these must-have sneakers at select Jordan Brand retailers and online sites like Nike.com for $140.
Whether you are getting these to stay warm in the winter months or for your man who loves excellent sneakers and hunting, this is a pair of sneakers you will want to take advantage of, thanks to marrying the ideals of fashion and the outdoors.
