The Air Jordan 1 silhouette was first released in 1985. It was a pair of sneakers that started a franchise between Michael Jordan and Nike and has maintained its chokehold on the sneaker and fashion world for the last forty years. Without fail, some of the favourite colourways that have ever emerged are typically red, black, and white, matching the original design by Peter Moore, Tinker Hatfield and Bruce Kilgore.

It makes sense that simply switching out white for silver and maintaining some elements of red and black would cause the creation of stunning sneakers, so it should come as no surprise that both the custom “Red Toe” variation and this brand new “Black Toe” version that a designer here at Fortress of Solitude created are stunning, and evoke the same feeling that the original does.

Enough about the history; however, let’s look at these stunning sneakers. Starting from the bottom, we see icy semi-translucent outsoles with no defined colour, giving the mental image of making your way through the winter months nearing the New Year. The outsole is instantly complemented by the white of the midsole, one of the only two white elements on the sneakers, the other being the laces.

The sneakers get the “Black Toe” name from the stunning shiny leather that makes up the majority of the outlays over the front of the sneaker. Starting at the tip of the sneaker, moving along the mudguard, stretching up to the lower lace stays and through the lace unit, all the way up to the collar.
The rest of the shoe is shiny silver, encompassing the perforated toe box, the quarter, the spine, the Nike Swoosh, and the collar. The smooth, shiny leather isn’t quite patent but beautiful and shiny throughout.
The tongue of the sneaker isn’t the same shiny leather; it replaces the leather with a soft tufted material in a soft grey that perfectly matches the upper of the sneaker without copying its shiny nature. The same light grey is repeated on the inner lining of the sneakers.

Finally, the lonely branding throughout the sneaker includes the white Air Jordan Wings logo on the collar, debossed in white, complemented by the metallic black Jumpman on the tongue. It’s rare for Jumpman logos to be just plain metal. Still, this growing collection of subtle custom variations is so fitting.
These stunning sneakers are perfect for a black and silver New Year’s look or if you love the colour combination. Silver sneakers will always be excellent and give you a classic, elevated look.
