You rarely see artists working and reworking the Nike Air Jordan 12 silhouette because there are few ways to change the already stunning design. Luckily for us, our designer here at Fortress of Solitude is a genius and found a way to design the pair after one of the best sci-fi dramas of the 1980s, giving us these sexy and sleek Air Jordan 12 “Knight Rider” custom sneakers.

So far, our pair of resident design genii at Fortress Entertainment – Brandon Krige and Jarrod Saunders – have managed to create the beautiful Knight Rider “KITT” x Air Jordan 1 sneakers, as well as the sleek and stunning Knight Rider-inspired Nike Air Jordan 11, and now, adding to the stunning growing collection, is the Air Jordan 12 “Knight Rider” customs.

Knight Rider was one of the first sci-fi dramas to successfully introduce a sentient, talking car long before Transformers ever came to the big or small screen. We initially thought the Air Jordan 11 silhouette was the perfect one to bring the modified 1982 Pontiac Trans Am that was KITT to life with its sleek patent leather. Still, this new custom might take the cake.

Starting from the top for a chance, we see that the tongue of the sneakers is a shiny black tumbled leather sporting the usual Jumpman branding of the AJ12 making its way down the tongue, juxtaposed by beautiful deep red laces. The same motif is repeated throughout the upper, this time over a matt tumbled leather upper, complemented by bright red decorative stitching that follows the beloved sun ray pattern of the AJ12.

The red leather of the upper is a stunning, shiny, snake-skin-like pattern that is replicated by red rubber on the midsole before the midsole transitions to a silver arch piece before transitioning into the outsole.

The outsole could arguably be the best part of the sneaker and is undoubtedly my favourite design part. The majority of the outsole of the sneakers is the typical rubber that you would expect from an AJ12 pair. This time, choose a matt black that matches the rest of the sneakers. The highlight is barely perceptible underfoot and on the back.

The outsole has been stunningly modified to include LED lights! Yes, lights. One of the most defining features of KITT besides his voice and sleek shape is, without a doubt, the light that is emitted from within the bonnet of the modified Pontiac, a red light which slowly moves along the front to indicate when KITT is talking, thinking or otherwise involved in a scene.

The light is easy to see on the back through a section of clear rubber that is like the “eyeliner” visible around the heel and above the outsole and midsole of a pair of sneakers. Even better, though, is the underglow. What is more incredible about cars in street racing than a rad underglow? KITT traditionally doesn’t have an under glow. Still, it is so fitting in this pair, especially as the light peers through the red Jumpman that make up the branded shape on the outsole.

Would you wear these Air Jordan 12 “Knight Rider” sneakers? I know I would.
