Over the years, Vans has partnered with some notable brands, most recently with Disney for Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas collection and the Vans X Harry Potter collection. Now, the footwear brand has partnered with another iconic brand for the Vans X National Geographic collection.
Having published its first magazine in 1888, National Geographic has been inspiring groundbreaking storytelling and scientific discovery for over 130 years.
To honour this achievement, Vans has partnered with the publication to celebrate its legacy with the Vans X National Geographic collection.
The collection itself features a mix of footwear, apparel and accessories for men, women and kids.
The latest range was designed to inspire creative expression and ignite the explorer in all of us.
From discovering the Titanic wreckage, excavating the Machu Picchu ruins, as well as manning the first US expedition to the summit of Mount Everest, the publication has a long-standing history of storytelling to bring the adventures to millions of excited people around the world. The company has always been driven by its curiosity of our planet, a commitment to exploration.
This view is shared by both National Geographic fans and Vans consumers, fearlessly champion individuality and pushing creative boundaries.
Both brands have a deep appreciation for the environment and the materials used in the collection were carefully selected. These materials include organic cotton canvas uppers, recycled PET shoelaces, as well as the updated packaging.
The Vans x National Geographic collection features a mix of unique photographs and logos across both brands, across five classic Vans silhouettes. These sneakers include the Sk8-Hi Reissue 138, Authentic, Old Skool, Classic Slip-On, as well as the Era.
The logos are proudly featured as key designs and styles across the collection. The Sk8-Hi Reissue 138 includes bold logos, with the Era featuring an all-over print upper of a few iconic Nat Geo magazine covers over the years.
The Classic Slip-On, which is covered in a kaleidoscope of unique images from the National Geographic Photo Ark allows kids to express their inner explorer. The photographer from this collection is Joel Sartore, whose goal is to document every species in support of wildlife conservation.
In terms of the apparel, the Vans x National Geographic collection includes various styles for men and women.
The first item in the range is a heavy cotton jersey, a women’s long-sleeve cropped tee, which features a screen-printed National Geographic Society seal on the front and the Vans checkerboard print down the sleeves.
Further to the women’s selection is a Nat Geo recycled-twill ball cap to pair with the jersey.
For the men’s apparel collection, it features a short-sleeve tee with a Vans logo on the front and National Geographic globe graphic on the rear. This is paired with a Nat Geo Voyage boardshorts, which has been manufactured with 100% renewable, plant-based Sonora fibres. There is also an embroidered Vans branding coupled with the National Geographic globe patch and logo. To complete the look, the collection features the National Geographic Ward Crossbody pack.
