No one has time for safe and normal, so it’s only natural that the new Vault by Vans x Stray Rats collection is a celebration of being as off the wall as humanly possible. But hey, you can’t be number one if you ain’t odd.
Miami and New York City brand Stray Rats has built up a cult following with the freethinkers and people who prefer an alternative lifestyle. As grassroots as it comes, the brand is still led by artist and founder Julian Consuegra, who embodies the subculture influences that Vans has become renowned for.
Described as equally a visionary and rulebreaker, Consuegra likes to mish-mash and blend different cultures in his work. Speaking to Highsnobiety, he confirmed his vast interest.
“I kind of got a taste of every world, but as you get older, you start streamlining what you’re into and what you relate to the most,” he said.
Now, the brands have come together like a Beatles song for the new Vault collection. This new line reintroduces Vans‘ classic silhouettes in three new colourways: The OG Old Skool NS LX is available in demitasse/bosphorus and raven/racing red, while the OG Era LX in Rio is decorated in red and snorkel blue. The collection is an amalgamation of bold, bright colourways and darker muted, tones, animal prints and elevated materials that scream Stray Rats.
