When you thought you’d seen every borderline outrageous footwear trend, the internet raises the bar yet again. This time, it’s all about the latest provocative creation from Imran Potato, amusingly named the “Rat” Slides (or Potato Rat Shoes). Some fans have even given these slides alternative quirky names, such as the Takashi 69s, Ratatouille 1s, or the Air Rodents.

The mastermind behind these shoes, Imran Moosvi of Imran Potato, is notorious for his, uhm, well, unconventional approach to creating footwear. He first “broke the internet” in 2021 when he introduced the world to his “Caveman” slippers, eerily reminiscent of large human feet. This audacious design received an impressive 102,763 likes and 3,346 comments at the time of writing. Moreover, they’re selling for almost triple the original price (and sometimes more) on various online platforms. Moosvi’s droll and daring designs even paved the way for collaborations with well-known brands like Vans and Crocs. The Rat Slides, however, take Moosvi’s eccentricity to a whole new level.

The slides are attention-grabbing, to say the least, with a highly detailed rat design showcasing beady black eyes, sharp ears, and an exaggerated tail. As with Moosvi’s previous design, we suspect these are also made from latex. And, of course, his signature, “POTATO” lettering, is prominently etched into the shoe base, much like with the “Caveman” slippers.

Despite their unconventional design, these shoes have already sparked chatter on social media platforms, amassing 25,102 likes in the first 17 hours. It seems Moosvi’s talent for crafting unique, discussion-stirring designs consistently succeeds in drawing audiences from all corners of the world.

Is Moosvi making a statement about New York City’s rampant rat issue—with estimations suggesting up to 3 million of the rodents navigating the city limits—or simply delivering a whimsical, playful design? At this stage, we can’t be sure. Regardless, it’s clear that this latest creation has drummed up ample buzz.

As of now, there’s yet to be any news regarding the availability of Imran Potato’s “Rat” Slides for public purchase, but judging from Moosvi’s previous releases, don’t be astonished if you chance upon these unique rat-crafted shoes on city streets. So, brace yourself for a potential encounter with these uncanny rodent artworks on your next city excursion. Stay tuned with us for more information on new sneaker drops, footwear reviews – and now uncommon footwear updates.
